You had to be very creative in order to engage in conversations over there.

Hmm...didn't she have some issues with bandwidth or something? I waited for several weeks to have my registration accepted at one time. I'm still registered but don't like the rule of not addressing other posters directly.

I waited on a waiting list for five months to become a member and was banned in three months. They kicked me off for the response I gave to some ridiculous article by a liberal.I didn't use profanity but the article did make me angry enough to say the author was a vile pig.Over at that website they don't want posts that show a persons emotions, especially if the emotion is anger.

Yep, slow, ridged and a bit PC.

Better'n regular news but nothing can top FR.

Her refusal to allow comments on the during the Terry Schavio case was totally irresponsible. Her defense? "Its all been said before"

I wish her well but she has gone a tad astray.

I was a regular poster over there a few years ago, while only lurking here. Found myself banned twice and after 9/11 signed up here as the activity and activism really was quite inspiring.

I look around there maybe only once a month now; the information that other Freepers can bring to a conversation is much more enjoyable than the stodgy atmosphere there allows.

But, as others have said, kudos to her for her efforts. We are on the same side.

The tone of discussion among L-Dotters has always been higher than the norm, but I too sense that their traffic is dwindling. It is the only site that has ever removed me. Could it be that I shouldn't have refered to Hillary as "The fat-ankled bitch"?

L.com is worth a quick visit every morning - the Must Reads and the picture of the day are a good warm up before coming here to FR. I guess I still have an active screen name there, but I have not bothered to post anything in quite a while. By and large, I have a lot more fun here than anywhere else on the Web despite fanaticism about certain topics.

I actually found lucianne.com before I found Free Republic. I was a regular lurker for a few months until one weekend, for no particular reason, they banned a large number of regular posters, inspiring additional regular posters to also leave. Any questions of "Where did so-and-so go? Is it true that so-and-other-so got banned?" would be ignored, deleted or cause the questioner to also be banned.

While I was not among the victims, I quickly realized that FreeRepublic allowed discussion about Lucianne.com and Free Republic itself, while Lucianne.com disallowed either.

When I frequented the site they had open weekend roundtables where discussion was allowed. Then a couple of those got heated (in large part over perceived preferential treatment and/or Nannyism of a few posters)and the WRT got pulled.

Her site, her rules, but at that point it lost a lot of it's value to me...I'm happy I found FR.

I do have to give credit where credit is due regarding Lucianne. When the war began, my husband was deployed to the area and I had no idea what was going on. He was on a submarine and was relatively safe, but I knew that they would be launching missiles into Iraq and I was scared to death. Everyone there, including Lucianne, was very supportive and they really made me feel cared for.

When you've got Free Republic, why would you want to go anywhere else?

Well, to be quite honest, I don't relish reading responses from posters that call anybody vile pigs. It's a reflection on the poster and the forum, IMO.

But, I don't think you should just knee-jerk pull somebodies password. I would probably just delete the post and explain to the poster why I deleted it. Maybe she and her editors just don't want to work that hard.

"Her refusal to allow comments on the during the Terry Schavio"
I could not understand that rule at all. People wanted/needed to share info and discuss the story but it was "off limits". In a free society there cant be subjects that you are not allowed to discuss on some level or another.

My experience was much as Madeleine described. I used to be a poster at Lucianne, but changed e-mail addresses and was never able to re- setup. When I tried to re-register I got the notice that they were taking no new requests. Guess they aren't interested in much discussion.

But, I too am grateful to them for helping me find Free Republic. I lurked her for a few years and finally signed up last year and love it! Can't believe how many people were banned at Lucianne.....never realized how up tight they were! Who knows, maybe I was banned too and that's why I couldn't re-set up. I do still go there for a quick overview of the Must Reads, the Picture and sometimes quotes of the day time things. Would like to see more of Lucianne and Jonah on TV news shows. Both are very witty and entertaining!

Now who could possibly be offended by that?!?! LOL Where's their sense of humor??

FR has never been bogged down into chat. I just skip when it starts to. Jim R. is a wise man, he trusts us, and it works.

Hey, since we are talking about other sites, what other forums or blogs are daily 'must reads' for my fellow FREEpers?

During and right after the election, I didn't miss Free Republic, Powerline, Hugh Hewitt, Instapundit, Polipundit and SoundPolitics. Now, I pretty much check in on Free Republic and Rush Limbaugh's site daily, and only occasionally the others I mentioned. Thanks.

I don't think trixie has paid much attention to her website, once she realized the Washington Whistleblowers weren't going to email her, after what happened to her first client.

Somebody else really runs Bartertown.

I come to FR first everyday then I check out Lucianne. Over the years FR has become my favorite...I even went to a couple of FR events in DC. The reason maybe is FR is closer to a brawl. The opinions tend to be hot...perhaps on occasion, a bit untempered ----lots of noise, but in any case straight from the heart. Lucianne is....hummm....more lukewarm. I am a Louisianian...I like Tabasco...lots of Tabasco on everything...except desert. Still there is room for both.

I visit NRO, WND, Weekly Standard, Human Events, Insight, Reason, of course Matt Drudge and others pretty much daily. They come at subjects from different prospectives. That is something we have on the Right...lots of prospectives. We are a wild unruly bunch. Unlike our fellow citizens on the left, we have a real discussion. We are not stuck in the past. The fights are all on our terms. It is quite a change from the Sixties, Seventies and Eighties.

So what if Lucianne has a particular "way". The National Review completely different. Ditto for the Weekly Standard and (God bless them)Reason.com. I view the lot of them as allies. Let us win the war then we can fight over the spoils.

I even have to grow my own hot peppers - nobody makes food hot enough for me.

I'm definitely not the person to ask if something is hot enough - I usually say "naw, not at all - try some!" I admit I enjoy a cheerful glee watching them sputter and redden.
