Colorado U Lefty professor accuses us of promoting a "culture of fear." We Holly Roller hayseed hicks types don't have a consistent life ethic - we're the ones who are hypocrites. We're reviled for being afraid of seeking new horizons. And we seek to impose our values on every one else. To the Left, its all complicated and nuanced. In short, you conservative oafs are too stupid to figure life's rules out.

These same people who claim to be the guardians of life are the first to demand the death penalty for murderers, indiscriminate bombing for Afghanis, Iraqis, and anyone else they don't like, etc., etc. The hypocrisy is so blatant, it hardly seems worth spelling out the details. What a toon.

Its not hypocrisy. We believe ALL innocent life deserves the equal protection of the laws. In Afghanistan and in Iraq, we were at war killing terrorists who would have attacked us some day. How does that justify the state sanctioned murder of an innocent, defenseless woman? The good professor doesn't say. All he does is call names. That's the problem with the Left - they look at us as basically a bunch of backward, mind-numbed robots and they can't accept other people's views might be as equally valid as their own. To borrow a meme Chernus is fond of and throwing it back at him, my response to the Left is: "What are you AFRAID of??"

Thats just what thrilled those people sitting around in Volkswagen vans, smoking pot with peace symbols. Anything becomes possible -- even a world of peace and love.
What a deluded fruitcake.
Smoking pot + Volkswagen vans + peace symbols = world of peace and love.

Typical portrait of hippy peace-lovers. This guy sounds in love with the 60s. No wonder he hasn't grown up since then. He misses the rest of us joining him and his ilk on that LSD trip in psychedelic colored VW vans! (laughing)

This guy is a professor? LOL.
These same people who claim to be the guardians of life are the first to demand the death penalty for murderers,
Uh, no. The pro-lifers routinely gather at couthouses and prisons to protest executions, to my own chagrin. Get a new research assistant.
indiscriminate bombing for Afghanis, Iraqis, and anyone else they don't like, etc., etc.
No one demands the "indiscriminate bombing" of anyone. You have tenure? Put down the crack pipe.
The hypocrisy is so blatant, it hardly seems worth spelling out the details.
ie. you can't spell it out, so you weasel out with this evasiveness. I don't believe you are a teacher.

...and anyone else they don't like, etc., etc.
That's nonsense.

It would be funny if it weren't so tragic. These kooks somehow managed to shape our society for last 40 years. We have to weigh their irrational ideas against the fact that they were on dope - but where was everyone else when they started claiming that the way to "peace" and "happiness" was drug abuse, Crisco orgies, and a total disregard for personal responsibility (and hygiene)?

They believe that human nature is basically selfish, competitive, and aggressive, If anything is possible, who can predict what crime or evil will happen next? How can anyone feel safe? The world would be spinning out of control. We need fixed rules that come from unquestionable authority. Thats the only way to keep us all from running amok. You cant get that kind of certainty if you leave the rules up to human choice, the conservatives insist. People are flip-flops. They change their minds to suit their whims. They think with their hormones. They do all sorts of dangerous things, if we let them. Thats why we have to agree with our president, who says: The right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is not a personal opinion, but an eternal truth. Thats why we need to believe in an eternal higher authority.
I have no problem with that. The peace-and-love crowd showed us what the alternative looks like, and it's not pretty.

You scored a direct hit on the nail head. Punishing the guilty and protecting the innocent is precisely what it is about. The libs view all as equal or same. Their sameness argument extends to all people, cultures, and civilizations. They lack the mental capacity to see the distinct differences. There is good and bad--very striking differences for those who understand the concepts. All can be explained when one realizes "liberalism is a mental disorder."

As is true of most Liberal males, Ira Chirnus has completely missed the point on why American men react the way we do to abortion, the death penalty, warfare, and the State ordered execution of Terri Schiavo.
One of the basic survival instincts passed down to us since the beginning of time is the inborn drive for the male of our species to protect our women and our children, if necessary, at the cost of our own lives. Without this instinctive drive to protect our women and children at all costs, we would be not just non-humans we would have become extinct eons ago.
It is because of this innate drive to protect our women and children that we do what is necessary to eliminate any threat that might come their way, and to eliminate this threat we do not hesitate to execute murderers or wage war. It is also the reason that we loathe abortion, and it is the reason we unhesitatingly came to the aid of Terri Schiavo.
Furthermore, when it comes time to elect our leaders, we look for the candidate whom we believe will assist us in an inborn drive to protect our women and children that many of our fellow countrymen are incapable of comprehending. Recently, a California Governor referred to such men(?) as Ira Chernus as Girly Men, but I find that insulting to the females of our species.
