There is nothing "warped" about saying "They defended us" under those conditions.

I have NO problem with peopl;e from other places who wish to come here, work, pay their taxes, speak English, make a life, teach their children and who DO not force the rest of us to live in a different way.

I will see about renting "The Deer hunter".

It sounds very good.

That film was critized (at that time) for having been anti-American and too bloody, needlessly violent, but I guess somebody forgot to tell the critics that it was a WAR not a tea party with crumpets in England. To my dying day I will always know what made Jefferson such a great thinker it is exactly that quality of American liberty which remains unalienable to all of us "intruders" who come from God only knows what impoverished country and we know that here we will be accepted only because we do get freedoms and have a right to talk, to think to like, to dislike without fear of Siberia or some other place with close (this the type of close which indicates "proximity" to those who are gonna split hairs between a steak and stake or break and brake) vertical bars of steel.

I will definately check the movie out.

I usually avoid movies with a lot of violence, but perhaps this one is important enough to try.

You are not an "intruder" if you are here honestly and legally, working, teaching your children to speak English, paying your taxes, voting, and learning what it is to be an American..

if you are doing THOSE things, then you have more right to citizensship than Micheal Moore, Barbara Streisand, John Kerry or hundreds of others.

Iliya, I have to go off-line soon. I have a young daughter, and soon she will need to go to sleep.

If you manage to last here on Free Republic, feel free to look me up here on-line, especially if you feel "stuck".

You can Freep Mail me too.

Hey Tia! The Deerhunter is my favorite movie....Christopher Walken is stellar in it. Definitely not light entertainment, though!

Be careful not to post anything that is in support of what I say because you may get many pictures of cats and donkeys as a reply (that's my experience), let alone the spelling challenges between a steak and a stake. But you may not get any challenges between a RIGHT and a WRIGHT.

I normally kid my son that his father is AN ALIEN (me being a little different, and acting as an "intruder") but he knows better. You said it right I do feel more of a right to be, think and act American than many of those people you mentioned in addition to the thousands of blind folk who can't see what a great job W. is doing. It was only yesterday (or the day before) I proposed more space on Mount Rushmore, because my backyard is too small to put a 50' rock carved face of G. W. Bushkin (El Presidente).

I forgot to squeeze the fact that I am proud to live in Florida which in both elections played a crucial role electing the right man for the job in the Oval office. One day before the last election I had to go to Key West (about 200 miles south of my home) and there was not one (ker/ed) sign anywhere but plenty of Ws on every lawn, every car's bumper and every traffic light along the Overseas highway. So in addition to hating my degree you donkey posters and cat lovers can hate me because the newspapers made monkeys out us voting here in Florida.

Thanks!

I'll make sure to watch it alone first before I let The Kid anywhere near it.

How does it compare to the first half-hour of "Saving Private Ryan"?

Nah.

Pharmamom's not going to have a problem with kitties.

She knows the ropes!

We know who she is.

Next Assignment (should you care to accept it) - find out about Viking Kitties.

Really, you'll find this as charming as the Moscow super-spy story.

First half hour of "Saving Private Ryan" is probably the most painful 30 miniutes of film ever made. The Deer Hunter has a different form of pain, but there is some similarity in the young lives lost. Saving private Ryan almost gave me a coronary.

Considering that there was "a normal Dr_Pat" who had posted something here earlier, I can only suppose the you are either:
1. his evil twin brother
2. A big time cat lover
3. Professional animal tamer at Barnum & Baily
4. Dr-Pat suffers from "split personality"
5. Dr Pat is actually Dr Hyde, while Mr. Jekyl is busy

In either case I was wondering if you might have any spare pictures of donkeys, cows, roosters (it's Chinese year of the rooster after all) or similar domestic animals you could post. I am such an animal lover. After all didn't somebody extremely bright (and without a PhD degree) already say "a picture tells a thousand stories" - see my vocabulary is somewhat impoverished considering that I am a doctor and all, so I get to use Portuguese instead of French (sometimes) or Bulgarian instead of Russian other times, that way I feel so inferior that my only salvation lies in viewing large numbers of unrelated domestic animal pictures.

It's less gory by far than Private Ryan, but more disturbing in a way because of the nature of the violence. It's more gratuitous and psychologically based. I would let a 15 year old watch it, but probably no younger.
