We have the aptly named SIN card in Canada, and you don't have to offer the number to anyone but your employer, or your bank if you want an RRSP or RESP. I had to get SIN #'s for my kids RESP.
The whole 'number' thing won't bother me too much until they try to put my number in or on me.
Allright, allright! I got it - gubmn't gives ya couple hundred bucks. Big deal.... I still think every gov't employee should be in the system, senators, congressman.....all of em!

The $255 "death benefit" is payable only to a spouse who was living with the beneficiary at the time of death; a spouse not living with the beneficiary if that spouse was receiving SS benefits based on the deceased's work record; a child (or children) who is eligible for benefits on the deceased's work record. The undertaker can't claim it.
