I'm not surprised this senile idiot did this anymore that that he implied that the Pope endorsed his 2004 U. S. Senate candidacy.
This was already posted, BTW, but deleted. I have no idea why. It's news because Smith has way too many fans here at FR.

WHAT in the world is he thinking??? Is he wanting to hasten the end or something?

Those of us who thought John Sununu was the better choice in 2002 were excoriated by the Smithies here.
What an ignominious end for a formerly great Senator.

This is just idiotic. Kerry and Smith were diametrically opposed in the Senate.

I'm afraid Mr. Smith has gone bye-bye. Here he is at opposite poles from Kerry on almost all issues (especially abortion), and he's endorsing the guy?

Well, I admit I once supported him. Can't understand his logic. Maybe God knows the plan...

In 2002? Because he's a nut-- simply put. He embarrassed the state when he thought he was a legit WH contender and when he left the GOP.

Last time I checked Bob was wearing some plaid slacks and selling real estate in Long Boat Key.
Crazy and bitter.

"Longboat Bob" is a bitter old fool. Thank God John Sununu took him out in 2002 because he was an embarassment to our state.
This guy is so delusional, he actually believed that he could be President of the United States. He's a self-important nut job!
To: GraniteStateConservative
Now -- those of you who insulted me and others who said Sununu was a better choice than Smith owe us an apology. I won't hold my breath. I bet we even have some of those people come on here and defend Smith even for this.
To: GraniteStateConservative
What the hell? Smith was a great defender of RKBA! He was $upported by members of NRA/GOA-guys like me. Now he pulls this crap? Perhaps he got hit in the head during one of many hurricanes to strike FL?

why did he face a primary challenge? Smith abandoned the GOP during his last Senate term because he said it gave lip service to abortion etc. (Of course now he's endorsing a radical pro-abortionist....) Then he switched back to the GOP to run for reelection. Republicans felt that a) they couldn't count on him and b) he was likely to lose to Jeanne Shaheen, so US Rep. John Sununu beat him in the primary and then beat Shaheen to take the seat.

It's his only hope for attention. This will get more media play than a CURRENT senator, Zell Miller, got for endorsing Bush.

This is a joke right??? Smith, a devout Catholic, was one of the most fervent pro life voices in the US Senate. How could he endorse a man who has PROMISED not to nominate any but pro abortion judges?? How can he in could conscience endorse a liberal, activist, pro-abortion federal judiciary? Senator Smith has lost his moral compass and has sold his soul to the devil. I guess he's still bitter about losing the GOP nomination for Senate to Sunnunu in 2000.
