What was so vile about the excuse for which he was put in jail? Whose civil rights was he violating?

No. Wrong. You like to accuse people of things don't you?
Bass Ackwards thinking on your part.
If your child buys drugs, that is not totally the fault of the one selling them, so beating this person does nothing to adress the issue of your offsprings poor descision making. I guess the beating of the 'dealer' would be for your benefit.

I'm sorry, but unless this jail is a tent in the woods, there are cameras all over the place. What bothers me is that this act was probably "on camera" and the officers did nothing about it.
Parents should get a good lawyer and have the camera equipment impounded - immediately.
I've worked in a jail, and I can tell you - these people are viewed at all times. There are only some areas which are not "on camera".

What was so vile about the excuse for which he was put in jail? Whose civil rights was he violating? Exactly my point. The poster to whom I responded claimed we should conveniently ignore the original crime and concentrate on the fact that the kid would've been raped even if [say] he murdered someone. But it's impossible to ignore the fact that a kid who committed a "consensual crime" was housed with a violent felon who was arrested on sexual battery charges.
To: CyberAnt
this act was probably "on camera" That would explain why the sheriff's department is confirming the story.

The reason he was put in jail cannot be ignored. It most certainly can. If he'd been doing weekend time for burglary or parking tickets, he'd probably still have been raped, yet this article would not have been posted.
The only reason we're even talking about it is because of the strained attempt to turn this crime into an argument against the WOD. It doesn't work.
OTOH, it does bring to mind that famous SNL skit about "Paraquat-Related Deaths."

On that we can definitely agree. What crime the "was" applies to is a bit unclear. Exactly. NYT and Wash compost "journalism" in action.

My children know how I feel about drug users and drug dealers. If, by the age of 18, they haven't learned not to do drugs, it is out of my hands.
They know that I would be very disappointed in them if they did. Will that be enough? Time will tell.

How nice of you to judge his guilt or innocence before he's even tried.Okay, then, how can anyone be arrested and held before trial? The Constituition clearly contemplates pretrial confinement, in its prohibition on excess bail.

If he'd been doing weekend time for burglary or parking tickets, he'd probably still have been raped, yet this article would not have been posted. Except he was doing time for marijuana-related charges, not burglary or parking tickets. I might add, the prison time was spent in a cell with a violent offender.(Incidentally, housing someone with outstanding parking tickets with a violent felon would be equally as wrong.)
IMHO, trying to ignore the reason he was in that situation to begin with is a dishonest attempt to evade a critical piece of the argument, that is, should he ever have been put in that situation?

I'm curious, what would you do to the dealer that could possibly be worse than being butt raped by Bubba?

I wonder what the reaction would be to someone raped in jail who is serving time for illegally smoking tobacco in a restaurant?

"I'm curious, what would you do to the dealer that could possibly be worse than being butt raped by Bubba?"Just how curious are you? Wanna try selling drugs to my children and find out?
I'll take a chance on a jury of my peers.

Not if it is applied to anti-government fanatics. So therefore, if people are routinely raped in a government institution it is then a "government rape center". QED.
Oh, I'm sorry about that. I didn't mean to interfere in your double standard. I must just be begging the question again.
