I think it's time for a little "conquista" of our own, with Mexico ceding (at gunpoint) the states of Baja (Norte and Sur), Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nueve Leon, and Tamaulipas into a new US territory - self-governed, but under the US Constitution and economic system. Economic refugees could take up residence in this territory, but would face immediate deportation with no appeal if they entered the US illegally.

If the Mexicans don't like this, then they can take their frustrations out on their own corrupt government. And the "brown beret" types need to learn that there are penalties for inciting armed insurrection within the US - a few strategic hangings should suffice.

The numbers would suggest that they're already half way to being the majority in some states.If they voted to secede is there anything that can legally be done to stop it?

Other posters mentioned the dim view the Federal government takes towards its vassal states leaving to form their own country. Another reason "Aztlan" or the "reconquest" of the southwestern U.S. won't happen is because the Feds would never surrender to another power all the hundreds of billions of dollars in yearly tax loot that it extracts from the approximately 70 million Americans who live there, not to mention the trillions of dollars worth of infrastructure, industry and so forth.

If it's any consolation, Americans in the southwest (along with the rest of us) can be safely assured that they will remain serfs of the American Federal government.

Fair enough; I should have looked at your profile. I made the mistake of assuming you're an American, as the majority of FReepers are. My bad.

In 1861, a bunch of states tried to secede from the Union. By 1865, they had ultimately failed at doing so, owing to the efforts of President Abraham Lincoln and the remainder of the states. The legality/morality of this is debated to this day, often hotly at FreeRepublic, but the above is the bottom line.

All the Iraq crap is a sideshow. The real battle is here and we are losing. George Bush better wake up and get his lips off Vicentes butt and forget the illusion of all those Hispanic voters. These people see all those nice houses and other goodies just there for the taking. Mexico can solve all its problems in this way(at least until they trash their new conquest)and decide that the rest of the US is also occupied territory and start again. Not since the Roman days has there been a country with dumber people than those of the US when it comes to defending the only thing they really have. Their nation.

That is the reason I hate to call myself a right winger, because of people like you guys on this board. The Mexicans did not fly airplanes into our buildings. Stop foaming at the mouth! When Jewish Americans show partiality to Israel you don't get excited? The same thing with the African Americans and the Africa/Haiti issues? American women are always partial to women issues, and so on….

The problem we have in this country as far as assimilation is not going to get better. The technologies that made satellite TV, internet, cheap cell phones are making it possible for pocket of population to live independent of mainstream America. They have their own TV/radio/paper/grocery stores! Why should they assimilate! Our INS must be revamped to allow ONLY people who are interested to abandon their native lands, and assimilate in mainstream America. We certainly should stop any immigration of Moslems to this country. They WILL NEVER assimilate!

I live just a few miles north of Salinas, CA and the anti-US sentiment is very visable. I have seen that sticker with Calvin peeing on the U.S. flag on quite a few cars. Makes me wish I had twin 50s on my car. On July 4th, they all drive around with huge Mexican flags on their cars. All the "non-profit" groups force the home builders into 20-30% of the subdivision to be low income. Who do you think covers that cost? I can't forget all the little gangbangers that keep killing themselves. Who pays for all the extra OT for the police?

I don't think there will be any proclamation. This is a gradual process. Unlimited movement back and forth is next. The Cal legislature is already trying to give the same benefits to illegals that citizens have.

There is very little policing at the polls, so the illegals represent a large voting block. It's just a matter of time before they have Cal driver's licenses.

This process is like the story of the frog. Throw it in boiling water and it jumps right out. Turn the fire on low, put the frog in and it will stay in and boil to death. This is how the "take over" will be done.

There is one counter force not often mentioned in Cal, a growing number of Asians who assimilate well.
