Sarah Palin said Wednesday that the embattled chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) is "doing a great job."
During an appearance on conservative commentator Sean Hannity's show on the Fox News Channel, Palin said, "I support Michael Steele.... I think he's doing a great job. Michael Steele is an outsider. The machine, I think, is tough to penetrate... I think it's been good to have an independent outsider trying to create some change in the Republican Party."
The former Alaska governor's remarks are in sharp contrast to the comments of other leading Republicans, who have criticized Steele in recent months.

“It was a smart move by her at this point in things.”
If she does not actually think he’s doing a “great job” then she shouldn’t have said this. Otherwise, she’s playing politics .. No matter what is going on around us, the compass must always point true.
I take her at her word and believe she thinks he’s doing a great job.
ditto you 100%
Exactly. Larry Elder provides Michael Steele with an extensive list of "He could have said's ...."
If she is speaking the truth, great. I prefer to have a leader who has a difference in opinion but who always tells the team the truth on where they stand. I support that. Dishonesty and corruption is what got us where we are. She knows how potentially polarizing her support of Steele could be. I believe she must see things in him. I hope she’s not being disingenuous....especially as you say on something that’s “not worth it”
“Imagine if she called him out for the half-RINO he is.
It was a smart move by her at this point in things.”
In other words....you’re saying it’s just fine if she LIES at the expense of conservatives? I’m curious, you can’t excuse her forever....at what point do you lose trust?
While I could understand her not ripping Steele, she certainly didn’t need to say he was “doing a great job”.
She could have said, “While I don’t agree with him on everything, personally, I like Michael Steele a lot, and I hope he can recover from the mistakes he’s made and fix the problems at the RNC.”
You make very good points about choosing the battles. Why such a glowing endorsement then? I’m curious...your comments seem to assume you know she’s not in support of him and gave him a strong endorsement for other reasons...how can you assume she’s not being sincere...how do you know she doesn’t think ‘he’s great’?
With big spotlight wins in NJ gov, VA gov, Mass Senate he has done pretty good.
Look...you could shout ‘racism’ at the top of your voice and I would still stay true to my principles. We’re already being call racist over Obama...who cares....it has nothing to do with Palin’s supposed ‘fake’ support of Steele OR McCain. Frankly, I’m not caller her a liar, her supporters are. I think she’s being honest and I take her word for it...she supports them both. Her supporters have to deal with it...either she honestly supports them or she’s just another run of the mill politician.
I understand your point and desire to unite the team. I respect that. She may have simply been erroring on the side of respect. Unfortunately it was her choice of the word “great” that has caused the disturbance. I wouldn’t say she’s “wrong” in her opinion... she’s entitled to it and before I assume she doesn’t feel this way, I take her literally at her word and I’d like to hear why she thinks he’s great. She started to support the comment but I think it needs further probing.
I want diplomatic honesty. Others on this board offered excellent alternative answers. She’s always on the hot seat and has to be prepared to answer the issues that are polarizing. Giving her benefit of doubt that she is prepared and thought it through, this was her answer about a hot topic.
She can make obligatory compliments about others who are not leading the charge. But complimenting leaders who the troops have lost faith in, will cause confusion and further loss of trust.
...I couldn’t agree with you more.
Lord forgive me but that made me laugh. I wouldn't put it past SNL.
