He doesn't need to ---- 80% of the children in Houston's schools are on the free breakfast and lunch program. Imagine so many parents --- 80% --- unable or unwilling to feed their children. 80% on the government's food plan. That's not prosperity.

Do you state as a "fact" that President Bush is proposing amnesty for illegal aliens?

Do you state as a fact that the Mexican government would be cramming this guest worker plan through if they thought it wasn't? No way does Vicente Fox believe it will control immigration in any way or that immigration wouldn't be greatly increased --- don't forget he just had a million and a half little how-to booklets printed up encouraging that much more.

FBD:"I've read an article somewhere, that it would cost around 8 billion dollars to build a secure Mexican border wall. "

Bayou-Rod: "Unrealistic. The article you read must have been written by a drunk white supremacist. Which website did you see it on?"

Ah Rod, Rod....I heard it from those "drunk white supremacists" known as the Israelis...
Whose terrorism by the way, has dropped almost 50% since they've been walling off those wacky Palestinians.

-The construction of Israels very sophisticated 26ft high "deep barrier zone" is costing about $4 million per mile.
Some of the border fence is costing less than 2 million per mile.
Plus sophisticated monitoring systems, command & control systems, etc, etc, cost another $2 million or so per mile.
http://www.csmonitor.com/2003/0808/p01s05-wome.html

The total cost of the West Bank fence will be about $200 million dollars.

http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=39998

"Israel has already 93 miles (150 kilometers) of the barrier in the north. When finished the fence will stretch 217 miles (350 kilometers) at an estimated cost of $200 million."

"Each kilometer of Israel's fence cost $1 million to build. Bases, sophisticated transit points, and observation and command-and-control systems cost $2 million per kilometer."

So Rod...to put that into perspective, to build a similarly elaborate wall on the 2,000 mile long the Mexico border would cost around $8 billion.
UNDERSTAND?

But haven't you heard Rod?
We're going to hire those low cost illegal immigrants (that you love so much) to build the Mexican border wall. That should give the U.S. govt. substantial savings over paying a decent comparable US citizen wage, and you should be very happy about that.

In fact maybe you could be put in charge. You can sit there in your rocking chair, in your white suit with an umbrella over your pointy bald head, sipping your Mint Julep, all the while exhorting the workers.

I've got your number, Bub.

Also --- don't forget how jubilient Vicente Fox became hearing the announcement of "Bush's" plan (Fox's plan?) --- he began jumping up and down with joy --- high-fiving his fellow elites --- shouting "we're going for more!! we're going for more!!".

I saw a stat the other day depicting an example of how many are crossing the border 'under the radar' each day from Mexico.

(I don't think this is a misquote.)

"The equivelent of sixty (60) fully loaded 747 passenger jets fully loaded cross illegally from Mexico each day."

"Come to my Ohio city. You'll see a city decaying and rotting. The streets are filled with pot holes, and the biggest industry is the free food store."

That's because Ohio is a rust belt state. It has nothing to do with illegal immigrants or the weather. It has to do with your state's anti-business climate fueled by politicians who are kept in office by labor union bosses who don't care about the general economy. Their only goal is to get the highest wages for their union members.

Come look at a non-union state with a high immigrant labor force such as Texas and you will see real prosperity.

Labor is an asset, not a liability. But in Ohio the labor unions are prohibiting you from attracting new companies to take advantage of your work ready labor force.

.
"Those elderly who are lucky enough to own homes are taxed heavily to build new schools for the Mexican children."

If Ohio would educate those young immigrants to become work force ready and then give companies tax abatements to relocate to Ohio you could get a job in management with one of those companies. Oh, I forgot. Ohio is a union state where companies are considered evil greedy capitalist exploiters of the working man.

Don't blame Bush because your state is hostile to employers. No employers = no employees. DUH!

"I just can't figure out Bush's logic on this whole issue. It's so out of phase with everything else he's doing."

Ok maybe this is a stretch and a bit far fetched, but do you think it's possible that he's using some strategery - -Vicente Fox is pushing Bush, Bush agrees because of oil, gas, whatever, But, Bush knows it doesn't have a chance in h*ll of getting through congress. He can go back to Fox and say, geez Vinnie, I tried, but my hands are tied 'cause even my own party in Congress won't back me on this one.

Have you ever been to the Mexican border? Show me your drawings on that fence thru boquillas.

What are the land acquisition costs. Will you be using eminent domain? Poor ole rancher won't be able to get his livestock down to the river.

Can you elaborate on staffing numbers and cost?

We have fences in California and El Paso. Immigrants still get thru. They cut thru them, climb over them and tunnel under them. And your post says bombings have only been reduced 50%.

But what you failed to mention is that those fences are patrolled on both sides by the Israeli Army, which I hope to never have to see in America.

A fence can't stop 100% from crossing, much less stop immigrants from entering by air and sea. We already stop at least 33% (probably more like 60%) of the border jumpers without billions in ineffective fences and our military being deployed on American soil just to keep racists, xenophobes, union thugs, and chronic unemployables from whining.

If this is the President's priority, we are in trouble.

Amnesties for illegal aliens has always been Bush's priority, from the time he entered office. Only the 9/11 disaster slowed him down. What Americans want on this issue is not even on his top 100 list of priorities.

It's your opinion that Fox is forcing Bush to enact a guest worker program. That's just your prejudices against Fox and Bush speaking.

Bush is doing what thinks is best for America. If it also pleases Fox that is just a coincidence.

We need more immigrant workers. We are dependent upon the ones we have now. Reforms are needed.

We need more immigrant workers.

Then we would need them from many countries --- Haiti, Uganda, Poland, etc etc etc --- but this guest worker plan is designed for just one country --- the country whose president writes comic books encouraging his citizens to break our laws.

"We're going for more. We're going for more." Such was Mexico President Vicente Fox's jubilant reaction to George W. Bush's proposal to grant de facto amnesty to an estimated 8 million to 11 million illegal aliens working in the United States, the majority of whom are from Mexico.
