You need to reconsider your answers here, but I doubt you will.

Both scripture and church history disagree with you on this one.

The UMC says that mormon is not Christian.

I agree with snerk on this one Vern. The documents are clear.

In fact, like they say, the mormons don't consider themselves apostolic.

Did I ever say they were? I don't think so. This is just more of their "strawmen" stacked up so thay can knock them down and feel self-righteous. I AM NOT the judge of any persons salvation if they claim a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I may not agree with them, but I will let God be their judge, not me.

Thanks, my friend, but it is o.k. I've met a lot of people in the past 40 years, but never anything quite like this. It is amazing how we who call ourselves followers of Jesus Christ can be like this. God's grace is sufficient. Pray for them.

Be like what vernon? People that will not allow a watered down feel good gospel preached? People that demand that you prove what you believe according to the word of God and not accept every thing you say as truth because you said it?

It seems today that it is the children of the reformation that are the only ones that demand the gospel be preached as written not by what makes the speaker feel good.

We come from the stock of Luther that demanded truth be told no matter the cost. You have never met people like us because you have never been in the company of people that take the word of God as a truth not to be compromised.

You have played the victim in many posts here , we are not impressed with a pretense of a holier than thou post ( "pray for them" or" I am sad") that fails to show from the word of God what we have said that is in opposition to scripture. You call verses from the Bible proof texts .. but I will bet that you quote John 3:16 all the time.

We will accept your proof texts on any position on which we differ..

You gotta verse for that?

I think you are giving the best witness possible, no proof-texting needed.

We become aware of our salvation when we realize our heart has been turned from stone towards the desire to live a life that reflects God's glory.

Boy that really sounds like a BURNING BUSOM confirmation to me, Doc.

I never denied that there are the lost who come into the church. The core issue has been, and still is, the desire of some here to turn the house of God into a place where those who are in false religion can worship with the saints.

The only real comforting thing here is that you did take a stand that Mormons are not invited in to worship with the saints. Of course, this still leaves you with the problem of how to deal with all those pastors who think there is nothing wrong with it. But, being Methodist, that is your fight and not mine.

Woody.

Were there no Muslims or Mormons or JWs or atheists or Buddhists killed in 9/11?

That is not the issue..We can pray to the God of the Bible for peace for their families..and they can pray to their God together.. Doesn't the Bible tell us not to let false teachers over our thresholds? We honor their gods by pretending that their god is equal to theirs.

This was intended to be a "prayer ' service. If it was a memorial it could have been held in a public facility with Memorial statements . This was a bone that GWB was throwing at the Muslims in hopes of getting their support here at home. It was a sweet justice that the Muslim Cleric that Bush picked was found later to have ties and to send money to the terrorists . God saw to it that Bush was embarrassed for trying to use God for political purposes..God is not a toll in the hand of any man

Therefore, I agree that the Methodist church is not synchretistic with other religions. CaRep is correct. I don't have a clue what the issue is about being "synchretistic." Be assured, I never said anything about being "synchretistic" with other religions. I don't check membership cards at the door. I DO believe in treating others properly. If synchretism is what is involved, they should say so.

Would I allow a buddhist or JW lead a public prayer at an ecumenical worship service?
If I were in charge, no.

Thank you..a voice of sanity from a methodist

I'm a retired chaplain. We probably had people of your denomination in the chaplaincy.

I'm putting your variety in context.

Can you share it or is it non-denominational calvinist (is there such a thing)?

Go back through the thread Vernon, my comments to you were in the context of worshipping with people of "other faiths" and your attempt to use the BoD to support your stance. If your UMC church feels comfortable worshipping with pseudo-Christians, have at it, but don't attempt to pass your personal feelings off as Methodist belief.

Amen, Mom.

Our responsibility is to speak the Gospel.

God handles the hearing of the Gospel.

I like to hear "I came to believe in Christ."

But you are correct. A burning bosom experience if I've ever heard one.

You have no idea of the gospel I preach. I will not tell you in blunt terms what I think, but if the "children of the Reformation" are represented by the kind of diatribe that has been going on here, I agree with our Calvinist Choir leader, it is aberrant at best.
