A new film released in Germany this month highlights one of the great "what ifs" of history. It's the story of Georg Elser - a 36-year-old carpenter from a small town in southern Germany - who came very close to assassinating Adolf Hitler in the early days of World War Two.

Stalin was reportedly presented with a plan to kill Hitler. He turned it down, saying, “What if they replace him with somebody who’s competent?”

RE: by 13 minutes
Did he attempt it on a Friday?
To: Gen.Blather
I heard the same thing, but the version I heard was Churchill, not Stalin.
The way I heard it, someone asked Churchill why Britain had not attempted to have Hitler killed, to which Churchill said: “Why would we do that? Hitler is one of out best assets! God help us if he should listen to his generals!.” Or something like that.

No, it was Wednesday, 8 November 1939, the 312th day of the year, the 45th week of the year, which left another 53 days in the year of 1939.

Well so much for Friday the 13th being bad luck :)

Britain did assist the German officer corps in its efforts to kill Hitler during the war. Unfortunately, the bomb Britain supplied to the Germans to explode aboard Hitler’s aircraft failed to detonate. Numerous other attempts to assassinate Hitler before and after the war by civilians and the German military failed in every attempt. One of the factors which helped Hitler escape assassination was his habit of changing his habits and schedule to foil assassination attempts.

Enough Nazi leadership was “on board” that the machine of death was probably going to continue to churn even without Adolph. Certainly he was trying to establish a “thousand year rule”, there would inevitably be other successors.
That said, sure if the opportunity was there they should’ve taken Hitler out.

God wanted him there until he was finished with His plan. When he was finished with him, the war was over and Hitler died. If people did not learn the lesson from the war, how sad.

That is the most stupidest thing I have heard about God. Do you think God created man to then watch mankind inflict misery and pain on each other? If that is your conception of God, then maybe you should re evaluate your relationship with God.

You are entitled to your point of view. God does have a hand in the affairs of men. Exactly how we don't always know, but the scripture clearly says that God establishes governmental authority.

Certainly he was trying to establish a thousand year rule That is the thing about tyrants, they always think that their effort will last forever.
Just like the @$$hole in the White House right now - he forgets that he too is subject to Lady Fortune.
Just when they think they have it all - it will all be reversed.

In the history of mankind, governments have inflicted so much pain, death and misery, that I am to believe this was the work of God?
Furthermore, by claiming God is involved with government authority, you are deducting that Hitler was doing God’s work.
Please keep your view of God to yourself!

In some strange twist the German common man got lucky that Hitler never got assassinated and did call for total War, up to total self destruction.
The Aristocrats and Nobility ruled for centuries and were the driving machine for many of the wars for a long time, stuck in a feudalistic system
The VON's crept back under Hitler, but the absolute destruction and the strong influence of the USA after 1945 gave germans a 2nd chance.
Now you have at least 2 generations that never had to go to war or went to any military or never touched a Gun.
The 1st time in a thousand years.
...The abolition of the monarchies in Germany and Austria in 1919 meant that neither state has a privileged nobility...
...In Austria, in contrast, not only were the privileges of the nobility abolished, their titles and prepositions were abolished as well. Thus, for example, Friedrich von Hayek became Friedrich Hayek in 1919, when Austria abolished all indicators of nobility in surnames...

So, do you want to silence me? Do you want to censor me? Do you want to tell me I can not speak? Wow. You really need to do that in person and not on an anonymous forum.

God used the evil nation of Babylon to destroy Israel once. And, he used the Assyrians to destroy Israel. Then, he used the Romans to destroy Israel. He used the Medes and Persians to destroy Babylon. The Bible clearly states ALL of this. He clearly states that he causes nations to rise and fall. Your dispute is with God, not with me. Have at it. You are far more brave in your dialogue against God than I am in any format.

I would hate to think that God had planned killing millions of Jews and other innocent people just to teach a few Germans a lesson. You should think about what you posted.
