NASCAR forced Gordon to vacate his fourth-place starting position, moving him to 42nd for Sunday's season-opening event. Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice president for competition, said bolts had been misaligned on the rear shocks of Gordon's car, and the load placed on the bolts during the race forced the quarterpanels below the minimum allowed height

Are the quarter panels not connected to the roof? How can a quarter panel be low and not the Roof?
I have been wondering about this.
They've been together for two years...got Married in NOV and have a baby on the way!

I believe the quarter panels are literally hung on the frame with various clips and straps. From what I hear, some sort of shock to fram bolt connection was put in a wrong hole which then put more weight on the right rear panel, thereby pulling that side down lower...starting from the back...just roll easy for a while then move it on up at the first pit.
And any driver/crewchief will tell ya that starting position in this race means nothing (even if the record winner-starting-from-the-back is P38 I think.)
No wonder so many envy Flash.

Further, it depends on whether it was just the right side (which is what I heard) or both sides. If I remember the Room of Doom correctly, the roof height is measured just behind the windshield, which is forward of the midpoint between the axles. If you push down on one corner, it pushes up the opposite corner, and that raises the centerline of the car up to that midpoint.
I like this----DTV Hotpass kills the local channel breaks, and pops into some nice classic audio's. BOC, Who, GNR, etc.
