KFC to offer American Idol runner-up recording contract
http://www.bizjournals.com/louisville/stories/2006/05/22/daily8.html

Whichever finalist doesn't make it to the top on "American Idol" will at least get one contract offer: a $10,000 recording deal from KFC Corp. to write and star in an upcoming commercial for the new KFC Famous Bowls.

In addition to the $10,000, the runner-up also will receive a year's supply of the product, which has layers of mashed potatoes, corn and bite-sized chicken, topped with gravy and cheese.

The runner-up will have until June 7 to accept KFC's offer.

KFC is owned by Louisville-based Yum Brands Inc. (NYSE: YUM), which operates about 34,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries and territories.

From mj's blog:

According to Insider TV here are the song choices for the contestants:

Taylor Hicks: "Levon" by Elton John and "Living for the City" by Stevie Wonder. The new single he'll be performing is "Do I Make You Proud" written by Tracy Ackerman, Andrew John Watkins and Paul David Wilson. Paul Wilson and Tracy Akcerman have worked with Lisa Stansfield, Al Green, Tina Turner, the Spice Girls, and S Club. Paul Wilson did horn arrangements for The Winans, so the dude got some soul. Thanks folkgirl

Katharine McPhee: The standard "Over the Rainbow" and "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" by KT Tunstall. The new single she'll perform is called, "My Destiny" written by Hanne Sorvaag.

I was hoping that Taylor would pick "Living in the City". It was one of his best performances, in my opinion. I was rooting for "Something", but "Levon" is a good choice too. I think it's smart to pick tunes from earlier in the season. That way they can sound like brand-new songs to the audience. And maybe he'll change up the original arrangements.

Katharine has chosen two songs she's sung very well. I think "Someone to Watch Over Me" would have been a good choice. It's a song she performed beautifully from earlier in the season. It's a little risky to try "Over the Rainbow" again so soon--re-capturing "magic" can be a risky proposition. And hopefully she'll re-choreograph at least one of the songs rather than spend the whole evening on the floor. Heh.

Looks like KAt could have a commercial all lined up if she gets a hold of KFC!

She would probably do better in theater though. Don't they play up to the audience? Good movie actresses don't ham it up for the camera. Commericals do sometimes though.

I can see why Fuel wanted Chris. Check out Scallions' version vs. Daughtry's version. No comparison.

No, I'm talking about Paris Hilton. Yes, she is coming out with an album.

Socialite Paris Hilton has delayed the release of her debut album, so she can record her own version of Gnarls Barkley's hit song Crazy.

The album was originally set for release in early summer, but has reportedly been pushed back to September.

A source tells London's Daily Star, "It's just Paris's latest idea and because she shares a label with Gnarls, she thinks that it will all be a piece of cake."

"The chances of it happening are minute, but everything has to go on pause while it's all discussed."

Hilton's self-titled album will reportedly include cover versions of Blondie's Heart Of Glass and Rod Stewart's Do You Think I'm Sexy.

If she were a real patriot she would send some copies to Gitmo. I'm sure after having to listen to that crap they'd be singing like canaries. We'd find Bin Laden in about 3 seconds.

Oh I know! I think Taylor would laugh his head off about that one.

Bo took a dive in the finals. It could happen tonight.

At least the folks working on Taylors song have some soul work under their belt. The lady doing Kat's song has reportedly written for N'Synch and Backstreet Boys. Pop all the way.....

I think line congestion put her in the finals.

Of course rumor is that McPappa put her there with hired help.

People at the party described it as "hard to listen to."

LOL! With every CD purchase you receive an autographed barf bag.
