I think she is trying to cause enough trouble to have the thread shut down. She left in a huff weeks ago, but like a bad penny....

There, that ought to rain on doodlelady's parade! I figure if doodlelady is Mr. Robinson's friend, will at least I get banned for defending our AI thread against her! lol

If he sides with us, then she may have just called too much attention to herself. :)

Again, you're free to ignore my posts.

And Taylor's own words, however inconvenient you find them.

For their final assignment, we changed things up for USA TODAY's Idol coaches—Rona Elliot, Rich Martini, Gene Sculatti and Don Waller. Since past history suggests both Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee will record major-label albums, we asked the music-savvy panel to program albums of the most appropriate material — from the well-known to the obscure — for the two

Hicks is city's `Idol' ratings champ
Show earns FOX 6 highest-ever ratings

Taylor Hicks is not only the new "American Idol," but he is the all-time "Idol" ratings champ in Birmingham.

More than seven out of every 10 TV sets turned on in the Birmingham market during the final 15 minutes of Wednesday's "Idol" finale were tuned in to watch Hicks win, according to overnight ratings from Nielsen Media Research.

During that last quarter-hour, Hicks earned Birmingham's FOX 6 a 73 percent share of the market, surpassing the record 71 share when Ruben Studdard won the "Idol" crown during the show's second season in 2003.

"There really isn't anything in context that compares to `American Idol,'" FOX 6 Vice President and General Manager Dennis Leonard said. "It is beyond television ratings comprehension."

For the entire two-hour broadcast, "American Idol" earned a 51.5 rating and a 64 share here. One rating point represents 1 percent of the 717,000 households in the Birmingham, Anniston and Tuscaloosa market, meaning nearly 370,000 households tuned in Wednesday.

Those are the highest ratings in the history of FOX 6, Leonard said, and excluding sporting events, are among the best in television history.

"Our estimation is, if it's not the highest, it could be some of the highest prime ratings in the history of television in the country," he said.

By comparison, this year's Super Bowl XL, which aired on ABC 33/40, received a 44.1 rating and 52 share here and the 2005 Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn earned a 40.5 rating and 64 share of the market.

Nationally, an average of 36.4 million people tuned in to the "Idol" finale, with almost 43 million watching during the last half hour, according to Nielsen.

Oh, but I do like this thread and its relevance to what influences America.
When an American Idol is anointed, his every word has weight and meaning.

His role modeling has influence on our culture.

Maybe we should demand that Taylor tell us his positions on abortion, Iraq, health care, the estate tax, etc.

If he is correct on all these issues, then we on this thread can continue to support him and listen to his music.

If, on the other hand, he is liberal in any of his answers, we can go ahead and organize a protest, picket his concerts, etc.

I was talking about the behind the scenes gossip rumors. Those moles are from The Advocate, friends of Dave White. The moles on GC are those who simply were able to attend the show. Like Truenorth who gave Taylor the Global Soul Patrol shirt.

Interesting article. I had to laugh at the part about his mother wanting to vote off Rod Stewart! I did, too. I hope he sang better on his CD than he did live. :)

Nah, I'm just curious how the Clintons might try and use him.

That's why I was pointing out that not all moles were the same. TrueNorth calls herself a mole when she is at rehearsals and overhears things, too, and comments on them. :)

This was from an Entertainment Weekly interview:

After the show went off the air, all of your boys — Chris, Ace, Elliott — ran up to you and picked you up in the air. It seems like you all got really close. Was it nice to share your victory with the guys before anyone else?
We all are such a family. It's such a family-oriented thing you go through; it's such an interesting process. We're all friends, and what a great group of folks and what great talent.

I wish we would have gotten to see the guys lift him up in the air. :)

I know Melissa McGhee doesn't read this thread, but I would have loved to hear her sing, "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me", by Dusty Springfield.

Does anyone remember that big hit from the 60s?

Silver-haired Taylor party rocks BJCC
Hicks' mom, 1,500 fans gather to watch victory

Triumph buzzed through a rowdy crowd of sign-waving, silver-haired fans who gathered at the BJCC Arena Wednesday, hours before Birmingham's Taylor Hicks walked away with the "American Idol" crown.

Many of the estimated 1,500 people there seemed to assume it was a victory party for Hicks long before they left home, but that did not stop the screaming, tearful, jumping-up-and-down celebration when his name was announced at the end of the live show.

"I feel like a proud papa," said Zippy Dieterich, drummer in Hicks' band, the Little Memphis Blues Orchestra, who wasn't nervous about the outcome.

"When he told me he was trying out, I was like, `You know you're going to win it,'" Dieterich said.

Others obviously agreed, since the gathering at the BJCC, which was broadcast live on "American Idol" as Hicks' hometown celebration, seemed free of nerves.

Fans mugged for the cameras that swooped through the sea of neon signs. They watched their idol perform on two projection screens and scoreboard screens.

Hicks' gray hair has helped him stand out on "American Idol," but he would have blended in at the BJCC. Silver-streaked styles, from ponytails to crewcuts, were all the rage, along with T-shirts sporting Hicks' picture.

Hicks' mother, Pamela Dickinson, sat in the front row with a group of family and friends.

"I'd prayed for this, and it's happening. I'm grateful for all the fan support, and I know he is, too," she said.

As clips of her son's past performances played on the screens before the show, Dickinson recalled the early signs of his talent.

During American Idol, if they had personal websites they had to shut the down. But, now that AI is over, can they re-open their sites?

I was just wondering when the Taylor Hicks site might reopen.
