IMHO: Have some % of wealth in PMs. Day to day, use fiat. Hold your silver. Sell after fiat collapse.
Sell after fiat collapse.
Yikes. That’s a scary thought.
You can look up the coins on the net and get a sense of what to expect. Antique dealers usually know brooches well. You can try 3-5 dealers to see if they basically agree on values.
Fiat is designed to collapse. It is debt from the gitgo, created from nothing by central banks. Debt is created in a way that debtors only get further into debt. It facilitates wars, as a convenient way for governments to finance hostilities. We now have at minimum $38T in debt, and much more than that all told.
The typical lifespan of a fiat currency is very low. The USD is at a mere 112 years. Euro 26 years.
The longest-lived fiats are in the 100-200 year range. And, there are not that many of them.
A lot of gold is on paper also.
Yes. I’ve got some. I don’t trust anything paper long-term, but we’ve got to live in this world: buying and selling to stay alive. We use currencies as part of life.
I may not trust they will hold their value long term, but we need them to live. A necessary evil.
I have been buying silver and gold, mostly silver for much of this year. Paper silver and gold are so far removed from reality that it’s a wonder someone hasn’t gone to jail yet.
Paper silver is 100x oversold to actual silver and if even 5% is called, the inventory of real silver will be gone.
Actually, many Asians are very much into crypto as well as gold and silver.
COMEX crashed on Friday for many hours and silver shot up over $3.00 in a day. Instead of profit taking driving it back down, it surged another $2.00 today to $58.63.
Now $58.63
Take them to a coin dealer, not to those fraudster traveling shows or mail in offers.
Best to wait a few weeks, as the refiners have stopped taking anything but .999 silver and jewelry and 90% silver coins have less value when sold now.
Agreed, I have been buying more 90% coins now because of this. I have gotten them at spot or lower because of the refiners.
This will work out eventually and they will go back up. Just finished up another tube of 50 Mercury dimes.
Thank you for your knowledgeable tip. I’m so grateful for FR!
Your insight is much appreciated. Thanks, SW!
Thanks for your good advice. All my age-enhanced women friends are are sorting jewelry into two piles--“whom should I leave this to?”, and “never really loved it; maybe I can make a buck.”
I sold 4 sterling silver forks, knives, and spoons, last year when silver was much lower and got almost $200 for them. I was dead broke right after my wife passed. Silver has doubled since then.
