What is a secret society?
I’ll tell you what it is. A secret society is a pack of liars.
"I personally saw it on the internet..." — Phineas Q. Bumpkin
“If secret societies had nothing to hide, they would drop the “secret” and just be a normal club.”
I can see some merit to your argument. On the other hand, counter-examples come to mind.
Secret Christian church services in communist China and other parts of the world are the result of Christian persecution. The same applied in ancient Rome.
Cellphone-free meetings at work seem natural enough to me. I think the work environment is often a closed, not open to the public, environment. It’s a right to privacy.
The two examples I provided may seem secretive to outsiders.
Ever heard of Pallywood? Or is just a figment of our imaginations for the last 45 years?
“The two examples I provided may seem secretive to outsiders.”
Okay, but they’re not secrets made of a blood oath. A blood oath means they murder you if you tell the secret. This is what the secret societies do. And seeking refuge in the Lord is the opposite of what secret societies do. There’s no middle ground there—no man or beast can bring the two together.
“The very word ‘secrecy’ is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings.” -President John F. Kennedy
