Nathan Hale is not simply “in the Seattle area,” it is in the Seattle city limits. I used to live right across the street from it. When I was a little kid, the site was a 9-hole golf course. The school was built around 1962.
The Nathan Hale neighborhood used to be a nice mostly middleclass community but it has become increasingly criminal ridden over the years. The students at Nathan Hale appear to be the children of said criminals. Sad for those who bought houses in this neighborhood.
There was a lot of that in those days, in both directions.
For example, Mussolini started as a Socialist and took other ex-Socialists with him.

In my own experience I never met one who ever took a class in martial arts or owned a fire arm.

I taught for many years in a big-city high school (post #28). Suspensions and expulsions work. But they were pretty much a thing of the past in my district.
There are two reasons for that. The state passed a law saying a special ed student could only be suspended for at 9 nine days in any one school year. And we had a lot of special ed kids. So the principal kept those 9 days in reserve for really serious crimes like having a weapon or dealing drugs.
Also, principals got bonuses for reducing suspensions. We’re talking thousands of dollars here. So most principals chose money over doing the right thing.
So what happened to students who should have been suspended? They were sent to the counselor‘s office for a talk. That of course did no good at all.

At our schools we occasionally had a day like pajama day, usually once a year.
They probably aren't allowed to suspend or expel black students.
