They are saying this to scare off the Russians. If they did launch a “pre-emptive” attack, they’d be squashed like a bug. The other problem is that people are too cynical now, and don’t believe that “pre-emptive attacks” are responses to real threats.
If Estonia makes a preemptive strike I don’t think it gets Article 5 protection...but the West is deceitful so maybe it does.
Either way, it’ll get flattened like a pancake.

This thread should stay on the topic, the topic being, Estonia’s bravado in regards to a preemptive strike on Russia.

I suppose they are thinking of that two or three week interval in Feb 2022 before Russians moved across the border, when Putin was saying there would be no invasion of Ukraine. If Estonia saw the same buildup near their border, they might consider pre-emptive action.
I don’t know if Estonia have help from NATO on the scene, at present Latvia has a large contingent of Canadian soldiers in country and that arrangement was just renewed for another year. Maybe Estonia have some other NATO forces on their territory.
Anyway, I don’t believe there is much of an existential threat to the Baltic states because (a) they are in NATO and (b) there are not compelling economic reasons to invade them as with eastern Ukraine. But then Putin is clearly not the most rational individual on this planet right now, and the bar was already fairly low.
Putin can’t sleep at night because of fear of Estonians marching on Moscow.
Estonia is sending up a “trial balloon”.
I suspect the other Baltic states will join in to halt Putin.
Ill ask again, “In a peace deal, if Putin was granted Ukraine lands they’ve already annexed, conquered, or over-run, why wouldn’t they allow the rest of Ukraine to join NATO?”

I would say if Putin and Xi allow the Taliban and Iran to join BRICS, then Russia and China can’t say much about other countries joining NATO.
