You are most welcome. It is a particular period I have taken interest in, and the question "Who Lost China" (to the Communists) has reverberations to this day.

As you can probably guess, I do not regard Senator Joseph McCarthy to be an evil man as Leftist history paints him, I see him as a hero who should have been venerated for buying us several decades before the Leftists/Communists began anew to make inroads into our society.

Before McCarthy came on the scene, people playing footsie with communist ideology were not viewed in such a negative light...for young people, it was a phase some young people went through when they went to college like the Goth phase or the Punk phase, and they were expected to "grow out of it".

McCarthy made it disreputable.

So, I have read quite a bit about that part of our history, and the book I referenced in my post is absolutely the best one I have read.

If you are interested, I dictated an audiobook of Joseph McCarthy's ghostwritten book "America's Retreat from Victory; The Story of George Catlett Marshall" at Librivox which can be downloaded for free: LINK: rlmorel Books at Librivox and you can select it from the list.

McCarthy took his lumps for attaching his name to that book because George Marshall was still an icon and hero to some for his WWII service, and he says himself in the book that people tried to dissuade him because correlation is not causation, but in my opinion, there are a lot of points McCarthy made that are wholly valid.

Stalin at Yalta promised to declare war on Japan two to three months after the end of the war with Germany. He declared war exactly three months after the defeat of Germany.

Some people have tried to make the case that Truman used the atom bombs to intimidate the Soviets. The Soviet declaration of war does not seem to have been a factor in the emperor's decision to surrender, just the bombs. Because they were a new and more terrible kind of weapon he could save face surrendering under those conditions.
