“with interstates at 55-65mph “
On some, 80 is cruising in the middle lane. I was going 95 on the way to St. Augustine and got passed by a Prius.
The all-wheel drive makes the E-Ray and now ZR1X very controllable in flat-out acceleration.
Even the rear-wheel drive C8 Corvettes are well controllable in a launch, thanks to the balance that puts a lot of the engine weight over the rear wheels.
The 755HP C7 Corvette ZR1? Now that was an uncontrollable car!
Yeah, when aerodynamics matter, all the cars look similar. Supercars spend almost all their time in garages or putting around with a club group. Many are tax write-offs “owned” by businesses (popular with car dealers). Another popular tax-write off is a string of race-horses.
Texas
70 is most common out West.

Right...and do we aspire for faster than that? I don’t see the point.
...not that I consider Telsa’s to be particularly ‘luxury’ imo.
There was no speed limit on highways in Montana when Carter did the 55mph thing, so Montana they passed a $5 ticket “wasting energy) offense for speeding over 55 so the state would be in compliance. Then:
In 1995, when Congress removed the 55 mph speed limit, Montana took away its speed limit and went without once again, the Missoulian reported. But it was reinstated in 1999 after a state supreme court ruling, but set at a maximum of 75 mph. In both Nevada and Montana, the speed limit can now go as high as 80 mph.
It’s more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.
“It’s more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.”
And more fun to drive a fast car fast.
The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is projected to run the quarter-mile in 9.6 seconds at 150 mph. This is based on claims from Chevrolet, with the car achieving a 0-60 mph time of 2.3 seconds. Car and Driver confirms that this is the quickest rear-wheel-drive car they’ve ever tested.
No to shabby it can give super comp class cars a run for the money.
My Porsche Turbo S is actually way more power than I would ever need.
A fair amount of these ZR1’s are going to be crashed unless drivers are VERY careful.
Paul Walker and his Porsche GT are gone because he wasn’t careful.
It can go from a stoplight into a bridge abutment in 3.76 seconds.
Don’t forget the gold chains.
“Paul Walker and his Porsche GT are gone because he wasn’t careful.”
Paul was not driving.
And your boss was just “YOLO!” :)
Corvettes have looked like that since they went mid-engine in 2020. They went from "muscle car" to "super car" more in line with the euro-exotics.
“The C8 Corvette is the biggest selling sports car in the US, by a large, large margin.”
You’re the one out of touch man. It’s just another generic looking “Euro super-car”. Say what you want, it’s just not hip to drive one. You’ll never pull off the gold chain in one.
“I expect to be seeing them running stop signs in parking lots.”
Who doesn’t.
Funny enough, the lowest drag coefficient number for Corvettes like that with the spoiler package is 0.29.
