Nah. Construction paper, maybe, but not cardboard.
ER,,,,,,, sorry,,,,, sometimes I,,,,,,,
After the Barbecue chip morphed into the Sour Cream and Onion chip the earth’s magnetic field reversed.
So Charles Chips ruined the world. I KNEW IT!
1) They changed the muffin; the texture is now kind of pasty instead of robust, and it now has no flavor.
2) They don’t toast it properly. I’m not convinced they toast it at all.
3) They don’t butter it.
4) There’s something wrong with the cheese, as well, that I can’t quite pin down.
I don’t eat them any more, because they’re gross. I recall that the ruination occurred some time between 2008 and 2017 ... and I 100% blame Michelle Obama for putting them up to it.
This is why I write.
Because we’re not just dealing with bad food…
We’re dealing with flavor war crimes.
The Egg McMuffin is dead, long live the Egg McMuffin. Thanks Michael!
What am I missing? I remember liking barbecue chips as a kid, but I don’t seem to remember ever dying or becoming addicted to them.
That’s like saying, “I smoked a few packs in high school and I’m not dead… what’s the big deal?”
That’s the thing about engineered addiction.
You don’t remember dying…
Because they taught you to live with the slow decay.
It’s not the chip that kills you.
It’s the life you accepted after the first bag.
Boom. Depth Charge #003: Denial Is Delicious
it’s not about flavors or just saying no, it’s been shown that its the reaction of some chemicals - similar to a percentage of alcoholics or drug addicts or smokers, some foods are made to be addictive on purpose (one is high fructose corn syrup) and many people fall prey to trying such foods, and it’s a real struggle to break free.
Been there and done it and sometimes one bite triggers a relapse.
I do find certain methods of detoxing does break the cycle, but diligence in avoiding many processed foods is the main thing that helps me.
Can’t eat out, almost never, too much fake crap in the food that re-starts the addiction.
But you didn’t answer the question. I didn’t ask what’s the big deal? I asked what am I missing, more specifically what is bad about barbecue chips that’s not bad about any other junk food?
its their ability to bypass the satiety switch and turn you into a junk food consumption machine.
“Sometimes one bite triggers a relapse.”

You weren’t weak.
You were targeted.
And the people who say “just eat less” are the same ones who’ve never stared at an empty bag wondering how the hell it vanished.
Thanks. Haha! I bet Michelle is to blame!
I remember how the fries were ruined when they switched from frying them in beef tallow to vegetable oil because it was thought to be healthier at the time. Now they say it’s the other way around. If they ever go back to beef tallow, I might give them another try.
Burger King went downhill when they stopped charbroiling.
It used to be that fast food joints were for occasional treats for the kiddies or for adults to grab the occasional quick bite while out doing a lot of errands. Now there’s a whole segment of society that lives on fast food.
thanks. it bugs me when some people try to make light of the obvious and documented facts that the food manufactures purposely add chemicals or so highly process certain ingredients to make them like instant sugar when you eat them which makes many things a majority of people eat addictive like drugs, etc.
Point taken. But how many of these chemicals are truly used soley for the purpose of addiction? For example, the one you mentioned (high fructose corn syrup) has a flavor component to it. It also has an economic component, as it’s cheaper than other sweeteners. Then there’s salt.
The flavor components, salty and sweet, are far more “addictive” than any other chemicals, and they’re both naturally occurring. Switching from high fructose corn syrup to cane sugar wouldn’t suddenly make sweets non-”addictive”.
This is just another effort by nanny staters to regulate what people can and can’t eat. And removing sugars and salts from snacks foods is the end goal, make no mistake. No thanks. I enjoy snack foods on occasion and am adult enough to make my own decisions.
Now, in the instance of any chemicals that truly have no other purpose than to cause addiction (i.e. they’re tasteless and serve no other function such as effecting texture, color, etc.), I would have no problem banning them. But I don’t really think they’re a big issue.
Had a neighbor who was lead engineer on adding bench seating at a major D1 football stadium. Don’t quote my numbers but I remember him saying they had to add 5-8” of real estate per bench seat to accommodate today’s obesity. The ones built in the 1930s were considerably smaller and caused fights during cold games due to people wearing winter clothing.
It never did that to me. Are you aware of any specific non-flavor component in barbequed potato chips that “bypass the satiety switch” or is it just the salt and the general taste?
Gave up potato chips a few years ago as I always felt sick after eating them. Every once in a while I will try one, and it is easy to stop at one. Real corn chips though (corn, oil, water and salt) with homemade salsa is a different thing. Funny I eat a lot of them with no weight gain or Ill effects.
Many T2 sufferers never had a clue until their pancreas was damaged beyond repair.
