Worth repeating:

Fire them all. Jail them all. Make them pay restitution!

Though federal employees likely have an above average propensity for workplace grift (because private business owners care when their $$$ is stolen), I bet many of the 100,000 cases occured during Covid when the government prctically begged people to soak up benefits, with little or no proof they qualified.

When Covid came along, I was managing payroll for several employees at a charity shop in Virginia. The employees claimed to be afraid of having any contact with the public, despite this being a rural, low density area. We offered to let them work full time inside the premises cleaning and organizing, with the shop closed to the public. They chose to quit. The State sent inquiries, which I answered truthfully: we offered them safe employment they turned down. I’m pretty sure they collected the federal unemployment deal ($400/week?) anyway. The feds basically pushed people to take the unemployment and make no effort to work, etc., and pushed businesses to take “forgivable” loans they didn’t need. Biggest ripoff in world history.

“ No one here should give respect to such counter-comments that don’t include solid, evidentiary support.”

If Musk fudges a number, people die. He’s that meticulous.

There needs to be a new name to describe those employed, but doing no work.

Public servants, in the animal husbandry sense.

Or you could spell "public" like Christmas: Noël...

Man, those of us who play by the rules are starting to feel like suckers. We subsidize half the country in lifestyles we can only dream of.

Unemployment offices compare benefit payments to wages reported by employers each quarter. This is the greatest source of catching fraud. Unfortunately, Federal agencies don’t report wages each quarter. They only report wages when an initial unemployment claim is filed.

Private sector workers get their unemployment benefits from the STATE they work in. Are these Federal workers getting some sort of Federal unemployment insurance? Meaning from the US taxpayers?

It is possible to be laid off (temporary shutdown of a department for instance) and not be fired, and get some weeks of unemployment but not your salary, then the department starts up again and you get your salary. “Layoff’ is not necessarily termination.

This happened to me in about 1982 as an engineer at Motorola Semiconductor Products - the entire 68020, 68030, etc design team was “laid off” for a prearranged number of weeks. Motorola had worked it out with the Texas unemployment agency so you didn’t have to individually apply. For me it was something like a forced vacation at about half pay.

It was considered a win-win for the company and state because it allowed the company to reduce labor expenses in a slow period without terminating employees which would put them on unemployment compensation for a long time.

Speculating that this could have happened to federal workers during covid or to IRS workers during the off season.

But I would be surprised if Musk and DOGE would not be aware of such an arrangement.

I would add seize all their assets, interrogate them, charge them with felonies and band them for life from working in any position in government ever again when they get out of prison.
