But to have a show/debate worth listening to, the host has to understand what his guest will likely say & be prepared to challenge it.

Really? Because I don't think the host has any such responsibility. Would you think that it was Rogan's responsibility to challenge his guest if his guest were on the podcast talking about how horrible Nazi concentration camps were for Jews? I doubt it.

Maxwell was dead at that point so it wasn’t as if they blew his cover. That he was a shady figure with intelligence connections was suspected by many. Foreign governments would already have known the general outlines of what Maxwell was doing, and before the internet the chances of you or I finding out how many intelligence chiefs attended his funeral were close to nil. It’s also possible that what they were trying to conceal was an assassination of Maxwell, who died under suspicious circumstances. Whole books have been written about Maxwell’s doings. If you really want to know, dig into them yourself.

If you invite a controversial guest, I expect a host to be talking about the controversy & yes, challenging the guest on his point of view. It’s the way to make it interesting & a way to get at truth. If they’re on just for chit-chat, that may be fun for some, but I personally wouldn’t bother to watch.
