If the candidates don’t meet the criteria of their laws or their campaigns are being Russian influenced or sympathetic to the Russian regime then I’m skeptical of their canadacy.

I'm assuming that by now you've become familiar with the news of the spreading banning of right-wing opposition candidates in 2025.

Do you have the same skepticism of the legal processes that are being used to ban these right-wing candidates from running?

I'm reviving this thread because three days after your post, Turkey banned its right-wing candidate from running on "corruption" charges. Now we have France banning its right-wing candidate from running on corruption charges, too. This bring the count of European countries banning right-wing candidates from running to three.

Furthermore, in the past few years the right-wing candidates were banned or jailed in Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, and Guatemala.

In Israel, the left-wing Attorney General prosecuted Benjamin Netanyahu on bribery charges for accepting traditional diplomatic gifts such as champagne and cigars. Despite these charges, Netanyahu sought and won reelection and has grown in popularity.

Question: Since Trump's impeachments and personal trials, with all of these bans on right wing candidates from running, do you think:

  1. That right-wing candidates are inherently corrupt and deserve to be ousted from elections?

  2. The international left saw what happened to Trump and is ginning up charges against right-wing candidates who have gained in popularity in order to keep a hold on their power?

  3. It's all a coincidence that right-wing candidates are "bad apples" being arrested acoss the globe at the same time in history?

  4. Something else is going on?

Everyone of those candidates are pure as the driven snow? I mean what does the Prime Minister of Israel and a certain former Senator from NJ have in common?

Everyone of those candidates are pure as the driven snow?

That's the question, isn't it?

What are the odds that every right-wing candidate is corrupt versus the odds that each of the controlling left-wing courts is corrupt?

"Pure as the wind-driven snow" has never been a requirement in politics or nobody would ever be allowed to run. Nobody is perfect. Also, the laws (since you mentioned it in post 43) in those countries aren't based on the same Constitutional principles as they are here; there are no "bills of rights" that protect the interests of the individual over the state.

You don't find it a little bit odd that as a wave of conservative populism is on the rise around the world, all of them are being jailed or disqualified?

Every one of jillsbucks’ replies shows what an NPR stooge he is.

Straight from the NPR “news” desk - too cute by half.

There’s no way that he can justify fake “democracy” in Europe, so he plays three-card monte with his answers.

Typical time-wasting ploys. I’m glad you have the patience to deal with his misdirection. :)

I think you’re taking a leap of logic here as there are many variables.

What, you agree with Raskin’s take on it?

Trump was speaking the truth, and he is the ultimate executive leading the DoJ. The DoJ and FBI need massive flushing, and those who conspired to overturn 2020 should be held accountable.

I’d think you’d embrace Trump’s exercise of his free speech by openly addressing a department that needs a spanking.

NPR does well in many markets, often beating long established conservative talkers. They are not the bottom dwellers of 10 or 15 years ago.

OF COURSE he does.

joesbucks attacks any effective Republican and any effective conservative.

He has been doing that for YEARS - under the radar.

That’s not proof of listening. It’s proof of the ratings service report of listening habits.

She was on NPR yesterday and said nothing she said in her reporting said wiretaps. Trump claimed Obama tapped his phones and the source seems to be Mensch’s report. Yesterday on the report she said she believes Trump should be impeached.

The current incarnation of “joesbucks” versus the historical posts of “joesbucks”.

He’s a “flexible” sort when it comes to the things that he says...

I remember the time he was bashing President Trump for being divorced, while saying he’d never been divorced himself.

Except for the part where he posted about being divorced.
