I don’t care if it works in Europe, it wouldn’t work in the US. If it worked in the US, you’d have Amtrak full on every ride.

The tunnel to hell has already been built and is quite busy. Multiple lanes, one-way.

Not just fuel.
Oxygen for breathing, correct air pressure, food etc,
Enough to last years.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper and easier to just ask the Aliens to help us?

Yes, that is a problem.
It should be interesting, because they would need rockets considerably larger than the largest rocket that Musk has, which is the newest one.

Of course it would,
Lots of ways.
Read up on how the Channel Tunnel was built.
Or watch a video on YouTube about it.

Starship is huge and getting bigger with even more powerful engines,
Raptor 3 is powerful, but Raptor 4 is going to be super powerful.

The Chunnel is not prone to earthquakes. It’s also just over 50km in length, not 5000-6000km.

There is no economic arguement for it. Even if it was devoted to train travel, cargo ships can carry more cargo on one ship than a single train can carry. Also, the time that it takes to transport goods is not that much longer than by cargo ship, a few days.

The rocket to Mars will be on a scale never seen. I imagine the forces of gravity will be used to save on fuel.

It would cost less, and be more productive, to ship all the crazy New Yawkers to London.

Again hundreds of millions of people in China take high speed trains instead of planes a lot of the time,
If Musk build it, using his Hyperloop technology, it will be super fast and comfortable and at a good price,

We know more about the moon than we know about the deep ocean. When they laid cables for the telegraph, they’d periodically fail as if they’d been cut. Turns out there were occasional 100 mile per hour currents through canyons. The Russians dug the world’s deepest hole and everything about it was shocking and unexpected.

Oh, and this would be great, if worked, in a world without terrorists.

They have 50 lane highways for cars and you can be stuck in a traffic jam days, that’s why.

It doesn’t work and could not be made to work. If it could be made to work, Amtrak would be full. That should be the market sign to you that Americans, except in some corridors, don’t want trains.

“I suppose no lunch”

Not only that, no going to the loo, either. You’re strapped into a tiny reclining seat in a tiny tube.

The Swiss built a thirty five and a half mile railway tunnel deep under the Alps, the Gotthard Base Tunnel using a tunnel boring machine like that beloved of Musk. Concepts for a cross Atlantic Tunnel that I recall from years ago combined tunnels under the sea floor with long stretches anchored and floating in the deep. For those, large tunnel sections would be built ashore on an assembly line basis and lowered into place.

Of course, the cost would be so large as to be implausible in spite of the economic benefits. Unless, of course, Musk is correct.

I believe Elon said his Boring company could do it for about $20 billion.

All they'd need to do is bring them to the port cities ike New York from across the Atlantic.
They don't have to take them across America.
They don't need American rail tracks.

Except they do.

It would cost, on Amtrak, $250 to ride the train from Washington to DC. It would take about 2 hours.

It would cost about $40 in gas and take just shy of 4 hours to drive. So, my economic output would have to be high enough to justify and extra $200 to take the train.
