If you buy a cd, you have a user license to play that cd for private use.

In the states, songwriters and publishers sign up with a royalty licensing company such as BMI, SESAC, Soundexchange, or ASCAP, who sell licenses to play their catalogue. In the case of radio stations who purchase blanket or catalog licences, they report back how many times a particular song is played each month so the licensing company can calculate royalties.

The descendants of Isaac Hayes are trying to sue Trump for using “hold on, I’m coming’ claiming they hold the copyright. They do have the copyright, but they also signed the song up for royalties; it can be found on the BMI Songview list. Which means, just like the Foo Fighters, Hayes’ descendants have no legal standing to sue anyone who has purchased a license.

He spent most of his early life there, but he wasn’t born there. He was born in Warren, OH and moved to the DC metro as a child. Ironically, his dad was a special assistant to US Senator Robert Taft, a constitutional conservative 😆

He definitely has some northern Virginia in him.

I went to high school in the area and still have family and friends there.

They’re not *all* a-holes there, but it is the prevailing culture.

What do you expect given its proximity to DC and an ever-expanding federal bureaucracy with more and more swamp creatures under its employ?

Since you’re from that area I wanted to ask - when was the last time Northern VA was conservative?

Oh, I am not *from* that area. I’m a Navy brat and we were stationed there when I was in high school. Prior to that, we were on the west coast and then in Italy. I got away from Fairfax County as fast as I could.

However, it was pretty conservative in those days. I’m not sure when it started going hard left. My guess would be around the Clinton years.

After doing some research I found that Northern VA actually turned blue much more recently. Fairfax County started voting D for president in 2004, and Loudon & Prince William in 2008. All three counties voted for Republican Bob McDonnell in the 2009 governor’s race.

Furthermore, Virginia’s 11th Congressional District didn’t flip to the Democrats until 2008. And the 10th District was Republican all the way til 2018. The bluest of the bunch, the 8th District, has been Democratic since 1990.
