Forget calling the Guard. Just open a window.
I would need a source for all that, the 60s and 70s was the time of the greatest need and use of the Guard to protect our cities, even active duty were called in as in the 101st Airborne and the 82nd.
In Detroit for example a lot more than MPs were needed.
“some 8,000 Michigan Army National Guardsmen were deployed to quell the disorder. Later, their number would be augmented with 4,700 paratroopers from both the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions”
Somebody posted this on Reddit, by the way Audie Murphy joined the 36th Inf. Div. (National Guard) of Texas after the war.
“””I looked up how many of each of the 3 types of MEDALS were given out to Army soldiers during WW2 (not including Air Corps airmen). Then I found the ratio between the number of each of them that were awarded relative to each other. I then equated 1 SILVER MEDAL (SS) with 1 POINT in the point system.
This is roughly what I found:
-For every 1 Army MoH, 350 Army SS were awarded.
-For every 1 DSC, 25 SS were awarded.
So based on these ratios I assigned 350 POINTS to the MoH, 25 POINTS to the DSC, and 1 POINT to the SS.
POINTS RESULT
Then I looked up the latest data for how many MoH were awarded to each Division during WW2 and put it in the Spreadsheet. I did the same with DSC and SS.
I then added the POINTS using the above SYSTEM.
The Top 5 Divisions in terms of POINTS were:
-3rd INF DIV: 22,142 PTS (including 40 MoH)
-1st INF DIV: 13,133 PTS (including 16 MoH)
-36th INF DIV (NG): 9,254 PTS (including 14 MoH)
-45th INF DIV (NG): 6,523 PTS (including 9 MoH)
-37th INF DIV (NG): 6,358 PTS (including 7 MoH)
DAYS IN COMBAT
Since not all Divisions fought the same amount of days, I thought it would be fair to create a “per-capita” ratio between the number of POINTS and the DAYS IN COMBAT. I divided POINTS by the number of DAYS IN COMBAT. Here are the results.
The Top 5 Divisions in terms of POINTS per DAY IN COMBAT were:
-3rd INF DIV: 95.0 (233 days) 41.7 (531 days)
-17th ABN DIV: 37.3 (45 days)
-1st INF DIV: 29.6 (443 days)
-36th INF DIV (NG): 23.1 (400 days)
-9th INF DIV: 21.1 (264 days)
INTERESTING FACT
The 36th Infantry Division out of the TEXAS NATIONAL GUARD earned more POINTS and MEDALS OF HONOR in WW2 than all Airborne Divisions combined (11th, 13th, 17th, 82nd, and 101st). I always thought the Airborne units were some of the most highly decorated units in WW2. Probably from all the media exposure they get. But a lot of Guard units were kicking some major ass.
DISCLAIMER: The service and sacrifice of a unit are more than just Individual Awards, and Points. This is just interesting data that gives us some insight.”””
Doris “Dorie” Miller was a Navy cook. Manned an anti-aircraft gun at Pearl Harbor.

Got it. Good friend is full-time career national guard - MP. He has said that most military are trained to kill; MP’s are trained to maintain law and order in places where law and order is often only a half step ahead of chaos.
One of the great stories to come out of 12/7/41!!!
