Good grief. The term neocon dates from the Reagan era and it applied to domestic policy issues as much as foreign policy. Many, but not all neocons were Democrats who were academic Jewish liberals. Derisive use of the term neocon often had anti-Semitic implications as a jab at support for Israel by Reagan and evangelical Christians.

Moreover, as for war-mongering, GHW Bush followed the Reagan model of restraint and realism. That led Bush to permit Saddam Hussein to remain in power after the Iraqi army was ousted from Kuwait in the first Gulf War. That led to years of trouble.

Now, for some reason, neocon gets applied to people who were never Democrats and never liberals and as if neocons were war-mongers. They weren't.

After 9/11, American security strategy changed due to the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. That led to the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq under GW Bush. Were those sound decisions? Most of the country thought so at the time.

So, just what do you actually mean by neocon and war-monger? Would you include the elderly widow of an evangelical minister who lives up the block from me? An ardent Trump supporter, she proudly wears a pin that features American and Israeli flags. Her views on Hamas, Islam, and the war in Gaza make Netanyahu seem dovish. We get along well.

It’s good. You paint a picture. I haven’t written much lately.

Its really hard to write good poetry.

I wrote poetry in my 20’s because I was a political science major. That major employs a totally garbage language. That is, they use 1000 words to say a thing when 10 words would be sufficient. This was the case back in the 70’s and 80’s. I don’t know what it is now.

But in order to get that hacked language out of my mind, I wrote poetry. Where its all about saying as much as possible with as few words as possible.

The problem with poetry is there is no money in poetry and the mind of a poet is not good for much else.

So I stopped intentionally writing poetry except every other decade or so when something bursts in on me.

So I’m the same way that you are in that regard.
