Russia is supposed to be deploying their first S-500 batteries soon. I guess its first combat test will be expired 1990’s ATACMS.

I think that Ukraine will not destroy the Kerch bridge until it gets 6-7 more Patriot batteries, because Russia's reaction to the destruction of the bridge will be massive strikes on civilian infrastructure, so the UA must have strong air defense and F-16 to be able to defend.

I agree that Ukraine will delay attacking the Kerch bridge.

I don't agree that they will wait until they get 6-7 more Patriot batteries and F-16s.

I do believe that UKF will continue to use ATACMs to destroy ruzzian assets in Crimea such as S-300/S-400 batteries, ammo dumps, railroad terminals/tracks, HQ buildings and bridges.

The S-500 is designed for intercepting and destroying intercontinental ballistic missiles, as well as hypersonic cruise missiles and aircraft.

With a planned range of 600 km (370 mi) for anti-ballistic missile (ABM) and 500 km (310 mi) for air defense, the S-500 was envisaged to be able to detect and simultaneously engage up to 10 ballistic hypersonic targets.

The S-500 is to have a response time of less than 4 seconds, compared to the S-400's of less than 10.

With an engagement range of 310 miles, russia may initially decide to deploy the S-500s on russian soil.

If so, the russians will be disappointed when they fail at shooting down any ATACMs.

However, if deployed on ruzzian soil, S-500s will definitely be a threat to all Ukrainian aircraft flying withing 300 miles of the border.

S-500s will be as effective as the S300Xs and the S400s that preceded them - they will be defeated one way or another.

[ Tables Turned Fast! Ukrainians Gained Air Superiority & Destroyed Russian Convoys ]

Day 795: Apr 28

Today, there are a lot of updates from the Orikhiv direction.

Here, Russian forces are continuing their offensive operation in an attempt to finally capture the village of Robotyne as a first step to eliminate the bridgehead created by Ukrainian forces in the counteroffensive last summer. To support their frontal effort, they tried to put as much pressure as possible by conducting a flank attack from the southwest of the village.

Russian forces continue to face fierce Ukrainian resistance in front of Robotyne. The main reason why they struggled to push Ukrainians out of the village with brute force was the fact that Ukrainians had spent the last month destroying enemy air defense and electronic warfare systems.

Ukrainian fighters published dozens of geolocated videos showing precise hits with HIMARS and other systems, including FPV drones against Russian air defense systems Strila-10, TOR-M2, and BUK.

Some of those attacks were coordinated and captured in real time by Ukrainian surveillance drones SHARK which were created specifically to monitor and adjust fire on the battlefield.

Among the most precious targets were the Russian electronic warfare system, Palantin, and the radar and command center of the S-400 air defense system, both successfully destroyed by HIMARS rockets.

It is worth mentioning that based solely on publicly available internet footage, Ukrainian forces managed to destroy an astonishing total of 9 air defense systems and 3 electronic warfare systems, within a short time frame in this relatively small segment of the front line in the Orikhiv direction.

This allowed Ukrainians to use drones more openly and in big volumes, which led to Russian military bloggers stating that Russian forces had decreased the tempo of their offensive operations near Robotyne, exactly due to these extensive drone strikes. This put pressure on Russian commanders to try to overcome this localized Ukrainian air superiority.

Ukrainian sources admit that even though Russian electronic warfare is limited, it is still felt by Ukrainian drone units.

However, they are adapting to this significant threat in the area by routinely switching the frequencies that their drones operate on. By doing this, even though Russians still retain some ability to control the sky, it is enough for Ukrainians to block any enemy advance in the region.

This effective use of Ukrainian FPV drones not only limited the Russian attacks with armored vehicles near Robotyne, as confirmed by many available geolocated videos of damaged vehicles in the region, but created a deadly fire pocket that prevented all frontal attacks on the village.

What effect those conditions created by the Ukrainians have on the Russian forces can be seen in the following geolocated video published by Russian military bloggers.

It shows an attempt to storm the south-west part of Robotyne. A Russian infantry fighting vehicle is trying to get to the outskirts of the village to deploy infantry.

It instantly comes under Ukrainian artillery and cluster munition fire, even at the early stage of the attack, but even after suffering a hit, it continues to move forward.

Several surviving Russian soldiers managed to deploy in one of the first houses, where they looked for shelter to establish positions. They were quickly eliminated by the Ukrainians with the use of further artillery and FPV drones.

After many such attempts, Russians decided to put further pressure on the Ukrainian defenders in Robotyne by conducting a flank attack southwest of the village, which was again successfully rebuffed by the Ukrainians, with the help of FPV drones, artillery, and mortar fire.

As a result, Ukrainian Tavriisk Group of Forces Commander Oleksandr Tarnavskyi stated that Russian forces in the Orikhiv direction are now trying to move in small infantry groups.

All attacks on the settlement yielded limited results, and there has been no Russian progress, as stated in previous days by some of the most prominent Russian analysts, who started to doubt whether prioritizing Robotyne in this direction was the right choice at all.

Another Russian military blogger sounded the alarm by claiming that Russian forces operating in the Zaporizhia direction do not have enough drones, and that those operating near Robotyne lack adequate counter-battery and electronic warfare capabilities.

Overall, Ukrainian forces managed to control the Russian momentum and hold the front line south of Orikhiv stable, despite all enemy efforts. The situation remains difficult, as Russians do not give up on the idea of regaining ground here.

Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief described Russian assaults near Robotyne as localized offensive operations that aim to recover previously lost territory. To discourage them from potential attacks in this direction, Ukrainian forces orchestrated numerous strikes targeting Russian air defense and electronic warfare systems.

These precise maneuvers, which led to the crucial establishment of limited air superiority by Ukrainian drones, proved to be pivotal in countering Russian tactical approaches.

Hopefully, the Ukrainian forces will soon receive the much-awaited artillery shells from their Western partners, which will help them to stabilize the front line even more and possibly even retaking the initiative.

There are four news stories about the new tax that will be introduced in Russia

A special group, which includes representatives of the government, the Central Bank and the Federal Tax Service, has developed the concept of introducing a new tax on childlessness in Russia. We have studied the document that will be presented to Vladimir Putin for consideration and are talking about its main points.

First, the new tax will likely be introduced in August. There are options for postponing it to the fall, but the base date for now is August.

Secondly, as we wrote, the tax rate will be 9% of income. This is practically a settled issue.

Thirdly, childless citizens aged 24 to 52 will most likely pay the tax. This issue is still being discussed; the age of those who will pay for their childlessness may be changed.

Fourthly, according to a number of experts, the new tax will increase the birth rate in Russia by at least 20% over the next two to three years.

Final decisions on the childlessness tax will be made after the president gets acquainted with the concept.

Will Shoigu “come to an end” in May?

This opinion was expressed in conversations with us by several military men close to General Mikhail Teplinsky. They believe that Vladimir Putin will not forgive Sergei Shoigu for the “deeds” of his arrested deputy Timur Ivanov and will replace the Minister of Defense after his inauguration on May 7.

“We are confident that Vladimir Vladimirovich will dismiss Shoigu. This issue has long been overdue, and now such events are happening that it is impossible to make such a decision... I think that Shoigu will come to an end as a minister,” said one of our interlocutors.

Sources in the Kremlin note that Shoigu’s resignation is possible, but the situation on this issue is ambiguous. On the one hand, our successes at the front, which are recognized even in Ukraine, speak in favor of Sergei Kuzhugetovich.

Plus, Shoigu promises the President advances in new sectors of the front ( although, as we wrote, there may be problems there ).

On the other hand, Shoigu’s problems are not limited to the fact that a person close to the Minister of Defense turned out to be a thief and, possibly, a traitor.

“We are making progress at the front, which is good. But we have many problems. The enemy is shooting at Crimea as he wants, and we still can’t begin to properly shoot down the missiles that fly there.

“Our drones fly as they please throughout Russia. We are awaiting the inauguration of Vladimir Vladimirovich and Victory Day with great anxiety.

“And we don’t know where the Kiev regime will strike these days. Our Crimean Bridge is under threat. And Sergei Kuzhugetovich has no answer to the question of how to protect him,” the interlocutor in the AP listed the problems.

He doesn’t know whether Putin will fire Shoigu. But he claims that the President has already been presented ( “just in case” ) with a list of those who could become the new defense minister.

We suggested that there might be the name of General Teplinsky, who, as is known, has long been a supporter of Shoigu’s resignation. But the interlocutor refused to name names.

And he emphasized that “the existence of such a list does not mean that Sergei Kuzhugetovich will lose his post.”
