International currency and exchange has always been a bit confusing to me. There are stories out there that though Russia is selling oil to India and China they are paying for them in rupees and yuan, and because of that Russia is sitting on a boat load of the currency but that doesn’t really benefit them because neither are used in general trade around the world
They can use them in trade with China which they are doing quite a bit I imagine, but less so with india(not sure what they are or would buy from China except some of their equipment back lol.
But the argument is that Turkey or Kazakhstan are not going to want to be paid in rupees or yuan
Any thoughts?
“Turkey or Kazakhstan are not going to want to be paid in rupees or yuan”
I think the bottom line for Russia being paid in rupees and yuan, is higher transaction costs for them. They can still get stuff for the money, but it is more of a pain, and they get nickled and dimed with extra fees along the way.
Russia probably has a bigger trade balance issue with India, in terms of currency exchange. China has a lot of products that Russians want, so they can use the yuan they get for their oil more easily, buying stuff directly from Chinese companies.
Russia ends up with more rupees than they need, for the stuff they want to buy from India. They have to pay a premium to convert them into other currencies, or negotiate less favorable prices to pay in rupees for stuff the want. Middle Eastern countries buy more from India, and pay Indian labor, so they can use rupees. They also have access to Western goods and technology that Russians want. So I guess they are trying to move their rupees through there.
Hamas tunnels in one northern Gaza district flooded by 5 pumps, however because the ground might become unstable, the IDF was forced to withdraw from that area.
