Not arguing with you, I’m just telling you the facts, based on experience, not some article you happen to read.

G’night! ☺

Yeah, he wasn’t doing anything wrong, but this turned into a discussion of whether it’s safer to bike with or against traffic. I’m a member of a few cycling forums and that question occurs occasionally, usually some newbie to cycling asking about it. I vaguely recall that there are actually studies showing cycling against traffic is more dangerous, but I’d have to search for them.

I assume you are talking about the forearm:

You cannot tell the race of the perp from the color of the forearm. But the passenger at 19 seconds in who is reflected in the side mirror does look white, but even then.

Depending on how it is shot, or how the video may have been doctored, you cannot rely fully on the skin color level alone, you need facial features too in order to have a shot at more accurately identifying the race.

And it isn't as if media/government is above that, they have done exactly those things before.

Regardless of their race, they should both be fried. It is clear they are both using facial coverings of some sort.

"...if they guy was really white, his picture would be all over the news right now..."

I think your post drives to the heart of the matter. There are a lot of things regarding race or skin color that can be misinterpreted from looking at a single frame that does not show facial structure or features (hence the masks) but...

If the murderers were indeed white, chances are their pictures would be plastered everywhere given the proclivities of the media and the government.

I understand dragnet2's sentiments, even though I disagree with them. I would not call them stupid. (This is for information-no need to start up this acrimonious discussion again)

I ride bikes, E-bikes, and cars, and am also a pedestrian on roads, and I have strong feelings based in experience some of you may not have.

First-if I have no option, there are no sidewalks, and I am not hitch hiking, I do not walk as a pedestrian in the same direction as traffic. I always walk against it. And I watch it closely as it approaches.

However, riding a bike or an e-bike against the flow of traffic is not only illegal, it is dangerous.

It is highly dangerous, for the simple reason that car drivers are not expecting you on a bicycle from that unexpected direction, and as a result, you increase the chances of a bicycle-car collision, and that is almost always a one-way street towards injury or death for a cyclist.

As I said, I speak from experience on this matter.

A few years back, I came up to a busy intersection in my car while commuting to work. At that hour of the morning, traffic is almost always bumper to bumper, and almost always stopped at the intersection. It is probably one of the worst intersections in the state I live in.

From the diagram above, I am in the red car, stopped at the line of traffic, and pulling through the gap left by a motorist to my left. On this morning, there was a camper just to the right of the gap, so I had ZERO visibility to cars coming from the right. My only option here is to enter the gap in traffic and poke the front of my car ever so slightly into the lane traveling in the opposite direction so the oncoming cars, if any, would have a clue that a car was pulling out. Then, pulling out a little more (still with enough room for any oncoming car to maneuver around me) I can get even more visibility, and then I have to gulp and floor it.

In this case, as I came up to the road, the oncoming driver to my left stopped and left a hole. About a 100 yards away, in a straight line of view, I saw a bike coming on my side of the road, riding in the "bike lane" (or breakdown lane) on my side.

I craned my head to look to my right, but I had zero visibility due to the large camper there. I took one more look to the left, didn't see the oncoming bike and assumed he had turned off somewhere, so I pulled out into the gap, and poked my car ever so sightly, craning my neck even further, but I still couldn't see beyond the camper. I nosed out a little more, then floored it to enter the opposing lane that was traveling right to left from my perspective.

When the bike collided with my vehicle on the left side of my fender, I saw, in high resolution, full color, super slow motion, the cyclist, his bare calves, biking shoes on feet, somersaulting in slow motion over the hood of my car. His black, open mouth was the only part of his face from the video clip in my brain that was discernible, the rest was pale and featureless.

Along with him, his expensive carbon fiber bicycle was somersaulting in perfect unison with him, as if in a choreographed dance.

The cops asked me if I remembered seeing the bike before I pulled out, and I said that I had, but the bike had disappeared by the time I did pull out.

Apparently, the cyclist had cut through a gap in traffic himself, before he reached where I was, and was riding down the yellow line that separated the two directions of traffic. I did not know before, but found out this is called "lane splitting" and is illegal in my state, but is legal in some states.

The bottom line is, I was not expecting a bike to be riding the yellow line in the middle of the road, and didn't even look that way when I pulled out and his bike ran into my vehicle.

And that is the same reason I think riding your bike against traffic is extremely dangerous. If I had been pulling out into that traffic the same way, I would not have even given a glance to the breakdown lane on MY side of the road and seen a bike coming towards me. I gave a cursory glance, but it wasn't sharply to my right in the breakdown lane, but to the right and up the road looking for oncoming cars in the lane I was trying to cut into. Pedestrians have leeway in that they can, if walking against traffic, see a car and step off into the grass or whatever if someone strays into the breakdown lane. Bikes often don't have that advantage, but may actually be making it MORE likely to have a collision with a vehicle since drivers don't expect them there, coming towards them.

As for my collision, I didn't kill the guy, though they took him away in an ambulance. But for about six months, I saw repeatedly in my head, that little super-slow motion, hi-res video of the cyclist and his bike somersaulting over my head. When I woke up in the morning, it was the first imagery in my head. When I went to sleep, that was the last thing I saw. During the workday, if my mind was not immediately occupied, that little video would play in my head, in super-slow motion, full color, high resolution.

But it did go away. I have to drag it up now, but I can still see it.

This case didn’t involve an intersection.

In this case, if this bicyclist had been riding alongside the curb line towards traffic, is it possible the victim could have seen this vehicle coming at him and avoided it?

Sure...in this case he might have avoided it, no doubt there.

To be sure, if they were willing to smash into him the way they did, they didn’t care about the windshield or front of the car, so they might well have gone off the road to hit him had he evaded and not cared about the undercarriage or tires.

I understand how you feel about it-my point was, it opens up another set of risks. You don’t need that stupid intersection like the one I drove thorough, you just need a side street or a driveway.

I drive an E-Bike now, I don’t have any any desire to hump up hills at my age, but...I am more nervous on the road than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

I only ride on bike trails, for the most part, and go onto a road with traffic if I am crossing from one bike trail to another. And I do keep my eye like a hawk on my rear mirror.

But like you, I absolutely walk against traffic. Of course, that has its hazards too. Many years ago, I was doing that and got hit in the face with a beer bottle thrown from a car. Fortunately, I amazingly didn’t get hurt more than my ego and a sore cheekbone.

But I suppose I could just as well caught a beer bottle in the back of my head instead of my face.

It is a no-win no matter what.

Yeah, car/truck drivers nowadays have taken a lot of fun out of bicycles, motorcycles, and even walking alongside roadways can be very risky. Way too many distractions, then throw in total lack of driver training. Then the criminal element like what happened to this victim. Very risky nowadays..

Btw, I was seriously thinking about an E bike. Looks like fun. But then I thought, it’s kinda like a motorcycle but lighter and slower...And I’m thinking the same thing, where am I going to ride it where I won’t get run over? It sucks! It was nice being young, we never even thought about the danger or risk involved...lol

I have a LINK: "Lectric" EBike, which I found offers great value for the money. I had a friend who bought one, but he wasn't using it so he asked if I wanted to borrow it.

I was so taken with it, that I got one for both my wife and I.

The nice thing about these is that they fold up-I can put them in the car to take them to a bike trail. These bikes were under $1000 each, and they are built like Sherman tanks, which means they are heavy, about 60 lbs per bike. I fold them up, secure them in a folded position with a bungee cord, and I lift them into the car. If you have a full size trailer hitch, they have bike racks that can support two sixty lb. bikes with ease, but...we only have the smaller hitch, so that isn't a good solution for us, as it is too close to the weight limit for two of them on it.

My wife doesn't like me to lift them alone, although I can without much trouble, but it is easier with two of us moving it into the car. I use some of the flat rachet straps to just secure them in the car.

On a flat trail, without a lot of hills, you can go 20-30 miles. I carry two extra batteries in a special battery box I built on a 3D printer, so when my wife and I go out riding, we are sure we won't have to pedal back. You can pedal, but the bikes are heavy, so...best to not run out of juice!

There are a lot of bike trails around now, we have one we can ride through our neighborhood to get to. But if you want to find what is available near you, take a stab at this website (there are a few others like it): LINK: Rails-To-Trails Conservancy

I am in my later sixties now, and I just cannot stomach humping it up a hill on a bike, never mind if my wife is with me. She ended up always walking her bike up hills, and if we went too far on a bike trail, she would often stop, and I would continue another five miles back to the car, then go back and figure out where to pick her up. That doesn't happen now.

We also got helmets with connectivity, so we can be up to a quarter of a mile apart and still be in touch, so...we can easily chat while riding, and her...being my wife...loves this feature. I like it too, because I hate yelling back and forth while riding. (we have helmets made by Sena)

It is something we can do together. It is relatively safe on the bike trails, just crossing roads is where you have to be careful. (I did a 30 mile ride yesterday, where I had to go on a road for about a mile) When we go on vacation, we scout out nearby bike trails. We were on Cape Cod recently, and did a sixty mile ride, but that was a bit much for my wife who felt sore afterwards...:)

I really like it. I can enjoy the scenery, we can chat, and you do get some exercise pedaling (how much is up to you) but going up hills is a breeze. If you are inclined, I recommend it!

We are in a race war for sure, being executed by the liberals and democrat party. Their continual racist claims are encouraging crime against white people, in fact the war has a title used by JOE BIDEN and his race baiters , “SOCIAL JUSTICE.”
