I remember this like it was yesterday - it was all a misunderstanding - Trump wasn’t the one who originally said that - it was a Trump hating commentator who said it as an insult to Trump supporters, and Trump quoted the guy at BBC a rally to show how deranged and dishonest the fake news is.
Here’s what really happened:
A Trump-hating fake news commentator made that comment - suggesting that Trump supporters were such blind followers, so cult-like, so unprincipled, that he could shoot someone in broad daylight and they would still vote for him. It was meant as an insult to Trump supporters, just as Clinton’s “deplorables” comment, just as Obama’s “bitter clingers” comment.
Trump then quoted that comment at a campaign rally, adding it to his list of absurd and dishonest things said by the fake news. He said, to the best of my recollection: “Did you hear? The fake news thinks you are so loyal to me that I could stand out on 5th avenue and shoot someone in cold blood and you’d still vote for me.“
The audience laughed - not because he was joking or boasting or anything of the kind - we laughed at how deranged the fake news was. We laughed for the same reason we laughed at being called “deplorables” or “bitter clingers”. Making fun of the absurd things said about Trump and his supporters was part of Trump’s schtick - and this quote was part of that schtick.
Then the fake news took it out of context, leaving off the “They say..” part, to make it sound like it was said as a boast.
Then idiots here on FR bought into the fake news out-of-context narrative.
I remember trying to correct this misunderstanding over and over, but people are so easy to fool.
How does one commit a “process crime”? Are people making any distinctions between those and ordinary crime? Prosecuting ordinary crimes by the book seems reasonable but to give precedence to process crimes is preposterous.
Well, there are 91 to choose from so I’m sure that everyone can find one that will trouble than enough to not vote for Trump.
Wait, several very vocal people here on FR have been telling us how important polls are and that everyone else should drop out and bow to Trump. /s
