...he was dismissed after delivering a damning report about the state of RU counter-battery fire.
Another Russian General Officer, Major General (one star, in the Russian system) Ivan Popov, of the 58th CAA in the Southern (Zaporizhzhia) front, was relieved, after criticizing top Military brass, for not rotating troops, or effectively addressing Artillery counter-battery challenges.
Out with the honest Generals, in with the yes men.
"We just got them, we haven't used them yet, but they can radically change the battlefield," Brig. Gen. Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, commander of the Tavria Joint Forces Operation, said to CNN.

They will be helpful, more effective against area attacks like trenches and open fields, allow Ukraine to use other artillery more effectively and efficiently.
Have come to the conclusion that the trolls are not on the site because it does not appear on daily timeline
Shows how much they really “cared”
“Ukraine has already received cluster munitions from the US”
Turkey has provided some previously, Ukraine has some of their own, and some have been captured from the Russians.
The main thing is that they get enough quantity.
Russian MG Popov: “I named all the problems that exist today in the army regarding operations, supply. I pointed the attention to the most important tragedy of the modern war - the lack of counter-battery fire, lack of artillery reconnaissance stations, and mass casualties and injuries of our brothers from enemy artillery.”
Russia is losing the Artillery battle. It is a long a long slog to destroy their massive capability, but the work is underway.
Agree.
My understanding is that we have a lot in stock.
Hopefully, Ukraine will get all they need.
I am amazed at the "honesty" of MG Popov. Clearly he needed to be fired.
Russia is losing the Artillery battle.
That's the only conclusion that can be made.

[ Ukrainians Wreak Havoc on The Russian Defenses ]
••Day 504: Jul 12
Today the biggest news comes from the south.
Here, Ukrainian forces continue exploiting Russian rigidities by conducting an effective war of attrition, and it is finally bringing major results.
Last time I told you that a Russian soldier said in an interview that right now, Ukrainians are focused on draining accumulated Russian ammunition, equipment, and reserves.
One of the tactics that Ukrainians use is to trigger Russian artillery with small assaults, track them down with reconnaissance drones, and destroy them by conducting HIMARS strikes.
It seems like this proved to be an extremely effective tactic because, over the last week, based only on the available footage, Ukrainians destroyed more than 20 artillery and air defense systems only in the Orikhiv direction.
A recent video shows how Ukrainians identified and destroyed two artillery systems Uragan, together with the trucks that delivered them ammunition.
Uragan is one of the best Russian artillery systems that uses much bigger caliber shells and has a range almost twice of Grad systems.
The video shows how the first rocket destroyed a truck with equipment, and less than 2 seconds later, another rocket hit Uragan itself.
The same day, Ukrainians spotted another Uragan in a tree line - they immediately targeted the ammunition depot and the Uragan system, causing it to detonate.
Ukrainian fighters from the 44th Artillery Brigade published a video showing how they hunted down several more artillery systems a few days prior.
Ukrainian drone operator noticed the movement of a Grad system, waited until it got to the shelter, and then gave the coordinates for the strike.
The same day he found another artillery system Msta-S, awkwardly hiding in a tree line.
Lastly, closer to the night, another artillery position was revealed - this time, it was the position of Gitsint-B.
The site rapidly caught on fire, as the ammunition storage nearby also got hit.
Russian forces published a video of the aftermath of a HIMARS strike on Giatsint-B.
Russian soldiers said that the artillery system basically evaporated, leaving just a crater where it was stationed.
Around 25 meters away, they found the gun of the artillery system that got stuck in the ground.
By the way, the videos are unrelated, and this is another destroyed Giatsint-B.
There are many more videos of other successful HIMARS strikes on Russian artillery systems, and all of this means one thing - the ability of the Russians to provide artillery support and conduct counterbattery fire rapidly decreases.
Ukrainians took advantage of that, especially the lack of counterbattery fire, and brought their own Grad systems closer to the front to fire at Russian trenches and fortifications.
Ukrainians also know that Russian commanders are not allowed to make rotations, and those troops who stay on the zero line, stay there till the end.
Such conditions are detrimental to the morale of the soldiers, who know that they will not be replaced, that the flying above them HIMARS rockets are about to destroy more Russian artillery systems, leaving them with even less support, and that sooner or later they will die from Ukrainian artillery.
The commander of the Russian 58th Combined-Arms Army, Major General Ivan Popov, who is basically responsible for the hottest front, wanted to break the bureaucratic machine of the Russian Ministry of Defense and solve these problems once and for all.
He got fired by the Chief of the Russian General Staff, Gerasimov, the same day.
Popov was shocked and recorded an audio message to explain what happened.
He said that during the meeting with the High Commanders, instead of bringing to the table yet another positive report, he said that his troops are in need of rotation after fighting in combat for a long time.
They are suffering significant casualties, and that Russian counterbattery fire is horrible and virtually nonexistent, which is why Ukrainians are gradually getting an edge.
When his concerns were dismissed, Popov threatened to appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin with his complaint.
Gerasimov accused Popov of alarmism and blackmail and fired him on the spot.
The Russian Ministry of Defense did not like Popov from the beginning because he was breaking a lot of rules and acted without the permission of the General Staff.
For example, he created and supplied himself the first Russian drone detachments in the Zaporizhia region.
Overall, the Russian Armed Forces lost not only dozens of artillery systems on the hottest part of the front line, but also another general who was very good at his job.
Such news absolutely demoralized Russian troops on the zero line who perceived Popov as their last hope.
And demoralized and exhausted enemy is exactly what Ukrainians need.
••News yesterday that Germany will deliver 2 more Patriot systems was wrong - they will only deliver 2 more launchers.

[ Ukrainian Artillery Destroys Russians in Bakhmut | Fire Control ]
••We can definitely say the UA bridgehead on the left side of the Antonovsky bridge is fully established & acknowledged by Deep State map. The Russian are only half-heartedly shelling this position, compared to what they were doing earlier.
Right now, it is important to understand in this phase, the UA is not trying to gain territory, but to drain Russian resources and ammo to create future opportunities.
On the west side, Lobkove region, when the UA took Piatykhatky in a valley, the Russian still held the high ground in the Zherbiansky direction. The UA attacked the hill, but only gained a small part of it; the subsequent Russian counter attack last week drove them back. Now there are just artillery duels.
==
Robotnye:
The UA 47th Brigade is in a bit of turmoil because of how the Brigade is utilizing their equipment & troops. This is the area where there is the most losses of equipment. No details, [ but it sounds like there is a command problem of some sort ].
It is confirmed that the UA is operating on both sides of Robotnye. Here are ingress of destroyed UA tanks and armored vehicles side by side with Russian tanks and armored vehicles. They are fighting over the same ground back and forth. [ This might be the sources of the turmoil. ]
==
Pryiutne, in the Rivnopil direction:
UA attacked the village but a Russian counter attack pushed them out of it.
==
Makarivka region:
Videos of significant UA advances, but how far is not known. They are using significant force and significant armored columns to take the hills west of Staromaiorske.
These engagements are all by the same 4 UA brigades.
==
Kreminna:
Western equipment noted is in the area of Kreminna where images of Swedish CV90s.
The Russian continuing attacks in the northeast are attempts of unbalance UA forces.
==
Bakhmut-Klischiivka area:
UA trying took the heights which dominate the area. The Klischiivka village is irrelevant. This gives them fire control over half the Bakhmut area; they will achieve 100%, if the take the Berkhivka heights north of Bakhmut.
This changes nothing much on the map, but everything for the Russians who are now in a kill zone.
Russian war bloggers reporting Ukraine using cluster shells for double tap attacks on Russian positions.
Smoke’em if you gottem.
“My understanding is that we have a lot in stock.” (Cluster munitions)
Literally millions of 155mm Artillery rounds, and hundreds of thousands of rockets that could be fired from MLRS or HIMARS.
In general, 5,000 Artillery rounds per day (1.8 million per year) would be a pretty decent supply for Ukrainian forces (more during offensives, but they have gotten by with 3,000 for extended periods). 1,500 rockets per month (18,000 per year) would be a reasonable general rate of supply.
Along with the regular Artillery rounds that we and Allies have in production, these mountains of cluster munitions should comfortably allow the Ukraine to basically blow up the rest of the old Soviet stockpiles and fleets (as they were intended to do), by sometime next year (if the Russians even hang in that long).

...UKR forces repelled numerous combined arms RU attacks in the vicinity of Bakhmut.
RU combined arms attacks?
RU combined arms attacks?
—
Yes combined arms by infantry only - Russian concept.
It does seem strange how often they send one or just a few vehicles on assaults
Besides initial invasion only a few j lol rage assaults of equipment come to mind
The 5th assault brigade found an ammunition storage site in a treeline. Shortly after it was destroyed.
