Confiscating assets to pay war reparations is not a new precedent.
Although I stated the concept glibly, I am not suggesting that it be done capriciously. It should be a deliberate legal process, in International fora like the UN.
It has been formally proposed diplomatically and has been under serious consideration (planning) for months. The recent vote in the European Parliament designating Russia as a terrorist State, also recommended moving ahead with deliberate preparations to use those funds for reparations.
The war crimes cases against Russia are prima facia, and the invasion was not only not approved by the UN, it was an obvious and fundamental breach of its charter.
Bottom Line: The International community already knows that those frozen assets will pay at least some of the bill for this war, just how much is to be determined. Likely all of them, plus some long term flow of oil and/or gas.
Well, I see that, after being mesmerized by the incessant RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA chants (Hillary must have paid big bucks to focus group test how well that chant would sell), you’ve slipped into the mode of consumer of OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY. That runs out, FRiend. And we’ll need some hellish good luck trying to finance our yearly TRILLION DOLLAR (and growing) deficits when the Petrodollar System collapses and the US dollar ceases to be the world’s main reserve currency.
Things can unravel and fall apart… and they can do that with incredible rapidity once the unraveling begins and feeds upon itself.
It won't be too much longer before they start confiscating your assets to pay reparations. I will then cheer them on. BoBo will cry buckets of tears and no one will GAF.

The US is run by people every bit as horrible as Russia is accused of.
Ukraine is a corrupt hell hole designed for corrupt politicians all over the world to use it for wrongdoing. And they do use it big time.
The people that live there pay in blood and nobody cares because they are just used people and poltical pawns.
I don’t disagree, but there are people outside of DC. Former US Attorney’s, current or former Judges, and many who would be eligible do not live inside the beltway - inside the beltway is a lost cause.
If it is not possible, and maybe you are right, then our nation is more lost than we think, but at least you have to try and hope you find one or two honest men focused solely on justice - politics be damned.
Trump was told or he believed that he could just play nice once he won and everything would be fine. He was wrong. Many of us were wrong in believing that the nation would accept the 2016 election just as we had done in 2008.
Those were the old rules and they went out the window during the Obama years.
We either fight or surrender. We can’t run. The left fights. I wish our side had 1/10th of the fight they do.

Western Governments can order their banks to freeze Russia’s accounts (which has already been done, for $300 Billion, half of Russia’s reserves back in February), and they can order the banks to transfer those funds where told, to settle a judgement, as is routine legal practice. We already have the money frozen, and Russia has no say in when it is released, or to who.

That would be a new precedent, that has no logical or legal basis.
