You just proved part of my suspicion, that some people around here think anyone who doesn’t like Putin is a “Neocon”. Which as we see from all the responses, means something else.
So as far as I am concerned, you can KMA, you communist creep.
Thank you for your in depth reply. One thing I noticed though, was this:
“Traditional conservatives tend to believe that we should not get involved.”
I tend to agree, unless our safety is concerned. As far as Ukraine goes, I agree we shouldn’t be involved, but isn’t supporting and defending Putin doing just that? That’s the part I don’t get, I am apparently, to some clowns around here, a “Neocon” because I won’t join them in support of Putin.
Do I think Russia was wrong to invade? Yes. Do I think that Ukraine is some important ally and friend of the U.S.? No.
It is apparently Biden’s piggy bank and money laundry. But does that justify a neighboring country coming in and killing people and breaking things? I think not.
“Excuse me, but why haven’t you replied back to anyone yet?
Are you trying to be a hit and run poster?”
First, I have a life and responsibilities to attend to.
Second, I saw no reason to respond to every post. Am I required to?
And there is no way I can respond to everyone, there are simply too many replies.
I am curious though, what do you think my motive would be if I were to “hit and run”?
I also very clearly labeled the post as a vanity and made sure to put it under bloggers and personal, IE: the dregs of FR posts, so as not to clog up the important topics.
So I really don’t see what your problem is.
Some people on the far right might support Russia because they feel some ethnic or religious kinship, but those people aren't conservative. They are most likely some form of white nationalist who might just as easily support Ukraine for similar reasons.
Those of us who believe we should take a hands-off approach to Ukraine are occasionally accused of being Putinistas. This is because people believe we are lying when we say we don't support Russia, or they believe that not actively supporting Ukraine is the same as supporting Russia.
OTOH, everyone who wants the US to actively support Ukraine is often accused of being a neocon even if they are just misguided traditional conservatives who are acting on neocon ideas without realizing it.
I can understand why a traditional conservative who has Ukrainian heritage or was a big supporter of "The Captive Nations" is upset when labeled a neocon just because he wants the US to actively support a former colony of the Soviet Empire. However, since the US has no strategic interest in supporting Ukraine, and even has a strategic interest in standing on the sidelines, then the only reasons for intervening are neocon ones.
If we were still the world's only superpower and we needed to support Ukraine to make our status clear, then there might be some real interest in supporting Ukraine. If we felt that Russia was a real future threat that needed to be taken down a notch via a proxy war in Ukraine, then there might be some real interest. However, the only interests I can see are idealistic and ideologic ones that line-up with the neoconservative agenda.
I can understand why Ukrainians feel the need to fight for their independence, but the most we should do is sit on the sidelines and root for them. This is not cowardice. This is national self-interest. Our interventionism didn't help Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, or Syria. It won't help Ukraine.
“You just proved part of my suspicion, that some people around here think anyone who doesn’t like Putin is a “Neocon”. Which as we see from all the responses, means something else.”
___________
That’s right it does mean something else. That’s why, after seeing your perspective being identical to the perspective of persons like Colin Powell, Mitt Romney, Lindsey Graham, John McCain, Joe Biden, John Kerry, Kalisz Schwab, George Soros, Alexander Vindman, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Adam Kinzinger, Marco Rubio, Bill Kristol, Jamie Fly, Robert Kagan and Dan Senor, etc.
It looks like you may want to look in the mirror to see a communist creep, neocon.
I don't go by labels. I go by "What is your senior goal in life? What is your scale of priorities?"
I want my family and friends to have safe, prosperous and happy lives. I care about the people I love.
I care about the people who maintain and sustain civilization, the farmers, utility workers, mechanics, petroleum engineers, doctors, etc.
I care much less about people who refuse to work, and yet expect me to support them.
And for those who I regard as a threat to the safety of those I love, their lives have no value to me at all.
It's all about your scale of priorities.
Trump did tons of
“Neocon “ actions and the putinistas here don’t want to deal with it.
The fact that Biden is an idiot does not mean we have to cheer for Russia.
It’s completely insane and absolutely not what trump did nor what he would do now.
Very bad things would be happening to Putin’s interests on a much larger chess board than the one being played now by Biden.
I was just throwing my nickel in, it wasn’t meant as a criticism. I noticed you replied, so I thought I’d go ahead and reply the way I did (including the original poster that asked and the first to respond).
There is an FR lexicon somewhere around on the site.
Thank You
