Billboard’s top 5 songs from July 31, 1982. This is my favorite top 5 from any week.

Survivor was just awful. Styx was awful, too.

All dawgs IMHO.... Anything by Toto is a joke.

I agree. None of them particularly any good.

I saw Kansas in the early 80’s. Some buddies were friends with Kerry Livgren and Dave Hope. Dave would call and ask how many tickets we wanted when they came to town.

Yes, that included backstage passes.

ditto here. I especially despise ‘Hurts so good’ and his other Jack and Diane ( or whatever the hell it was called) both were played ad nauseum on the radio. To this day I’ll run to change stations if either of those are played.

You need a ‘Hurl alert’ on all the John Cougar stuff.

Those were the band’s glory days. Saw them open for the Stones in 78

60s, 70s and 80s. Loved them all.

When Rap and Hip Hop came out... I was done.

And it’s not a black thing. I loved Soul and RB—James Brown, Motown, Marvin Gaye, Spinners, Chi-lites, Stylistics—great music to me.

Me too, I loved 70s soul and funk.

If all I had to listen to was 70’s soul, I’d be OK with that.

My definition of soul? The album cut of The Love I lost by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. Lead Singer Teddy Pendergrass lays it all out there.

Some radio stations are replaying old episodes of “American Top 40” on the weekends. Nobody could count them down like Casey Kasem.

I love to listen to them, it's neat think where I could remember listening to the same show now as I did with my cousins back in 1978.

I love the 1980’s more but the 1970’s is a very. very close #2. I guess it depends on perspective too. 1970’s and/or 1980’s and even before, music was a lot better then than now.

Agreed, I'm with you. Maybe some of the early rap stuff was OK like Run DMC and M.C. Hammer but it degraded quickly when you hear songs glorifying crime and such stuff.
