IMO, I’ve always believed Iran or other terrorist organizations have sleeper cells already in the USA, living and working normal lives who will activate when called to.

Instead of a 9/11 type of attack, I think it would be suicide bombers on buses, public events, etc...basically a whole bunch of smaller terrorist attacks all over the country carried out in rapid order meant to destabilize the country.

The USA has pretty much had open borders. There was nothing
to stop them along the Texas/Mexico border. Just wade across
the Rio Grande and you be here. Lots of them used to come in
and work the fields during the spring/summer and head back to
Mexico come winter. Now I’m not sure that many return south.
Also now a lot of construction labor comes from South of the Rio.
