Unless the “author” self-published, how could her editors not have picked up on this massive error? This case was in the news for more than a year and the identities of the men who died were well known, as was the fact eacb was white. So, was the sloppy writing simply a mistake, was it poor editing, or was it an intentional and malicious effort to defame Rittenhouse? Because Rittenhouse arguably became a public figure as a consequence of this case, it might not be enough for him to win if the author and the editors simply were negligent.
Heh heh. Or that he was so mad that they weren't black that he shot them harder than usual. :)
If you recall, Darrell Brooks, who ran over and killed 6 people and injured 55, his attack is listed as the “SUV Attack” even thought it was a Black Man who deliberately ran over White people. And the news continues with “other more interesting stories” and Darrell’s racist attack is buried in the backrooms.

Depends how the language around the obvious factual error was worded. If the book states or implies that Rittenhouse was acting on some animus against black folks, or part of a group that that is thought to be associated with such animus, the publisher is in for a pocket-cleaning. That would be libel and defamation.
The correct information is available on the public record from sworn testimony. No wiggle room there.

On p. 341 of THE GOOD KINGS I state that Kyle Rittenhouse shot two Black men when instead he shot two white men. That was my mistake, and I apologize. The response has been a hateful stew of ridicule and denial that America has a race problem at all.
