If we don't fix this fraudulent election, we may not have another honest election. The Dems who once said they wanted to end using the voting machines have all gone quiet.

Of course they've gone quiet. We had Trumpers storm the capitol and we still have Trumpers talking as though we can change the results of an election that was decided 5 months ago. Both sides need to act like adults and admit the following:

  1. We do not have a perfect electoral system. Every major corporation in America has been hacked and our electoral system may have been hacked as well.
  2. Just because our system is hackable does not mean that any specific race was hacked. Also, if the election was hacked, there's no way to determine which party hacked the most. That is, there is no way to determine for absolute certain who would have won if no hacking had occurred.
  3. As such, the only adult and rational thing to do is to investigate any potential hacking or fraud, prosecute anyone found to have broken the law, and most importantly, change the electoral system so that neither party can hack it in the future.
If those investigating fraud would openly admit that they do not have "absolute proof" that the election was stolen and state that their goal is to ensure that no future election is stolen, by Democrat or Republican, then I think that both sides have a chance of coming together and implementing a more secure electoral system. But as long as Trumpers are labeling questionable evidence as absolute proof and implying that they want to overthrow the prior election, I doubt that there will be any progress on improving election security.

The facts are still coming out about that, and it was a mostly peaceful protest. The damage to property came from the Antifa/BLM group masquerading as Trump supporters, and the violence came from a trigger happy cop. That was hardly the French revolutionaries storming the Bastille. Trolling like that really gives you away.

Considering the unreasonable resistance to auditing the ballots and the voter rolls, there is no reason to believe that it can't be proved that this election was blatantly and openly stolen. When people hide things and destroy evidence, that in itself becomes its own proof of wrong doing. A free and fair election needs to be auditable, and voter registration, lists of voters who voted, and signatures, etc., all need to be readily available for inspection. There is no reason why that data can't be made publicly available in a simple database. It's bad government.

...the violence came from a trigger happy cop.

According to a New York Times article:

One officer lost the tip of his right index finger. Others were smashed in the head with baseball bats, flag poles and pipes. Another lost consciousness after rioters used a metal barrier to push her into stairs as they tried to reach the Capitol steps during the assault on Jan. 6.

Further on, it states:

One Capitol Police officer, Brian D. Sicknick, was killed, and investigators are increasingly focused on whether chemical irritants were a factor in his death, according to a senior law enforcement official. The Capitol Police said in a statement that Officer Sicknick died from injuries sustained “while physically engaging with protesters.” Two officers involved in the response have died by suicide, the local police have said.

Of course, the death of Ashli Babbitt was very unfortunate. But a U.S. News story states:

"The investigation revealed no evidence to establish that, at the time the officer fired a single shot at Ms. Babbitt, the officer did not reasonably believe that it was necessary to do so in self-defense or in defense of the Members of Congress," the department said.

Babbit was climbing through a doorway with a smashed window approaching the House chamber that was still being evacuated at the time that she was shot.

Considering the unreasonable resistance to auditing the ballots and the voter rolls, there is no reason to believe that it can't be proved that this election was blatantly and openly stolen.

Again, there is no way to prove that Democrats were responsible for any more irregularities than Republicans and that any races, especially state or national ones, would have turned out any different without them. The only way that you can reassess the entire election is to recount the votes in the time put forth in the law. Still, I agree with your prior comment that Gore and Kerry may have made the problem worse by not further addressing the irregularities in their elections because the fraud issue was never addressed. The rational course is to investigate any irregularities in order to keep the problems from occurring in the future. But as long as those investigations are done with the goal of pretending to find what would have been the result with no irregularities and attempt to reverse the last election, such reform will likely never take place.
