Yes, people need to be aware of what their children are watching. Something we give no thought to can be very upsetting to them.

Remarkably, starting with The Sopranos, TV got better over the last twenty years. I suspect that the unsatisfying final episode of The Americans was due to information from US counter intelligence experts: even in the 1980s, most Soviet illegals remained loyal and happily retired to the USSR without detection.
