Closer than who thought? It has always been and will always be only 93,000,000 miles away.

like clockwork at least every five years: “Nuclear fusion power plants are just around the corner” ... just like miracle battery claims ...

We will know that safe, affordable, unlimited fusion reactors are within reach when the environmental community starts agitating against them.

A containment failure could be fun. Hope Im wrong about that. If you thought meltdowns were fun, wait until you see a fusion reactor go supernova.

“Ive heard this for half a century now.”
I have to wonder how many centuries did man talk about flying before the airplane was invented.

I’m 73 years old....when I was in elementary school I remember the claims that electricity produced this way would “be to cheap to meter”!!!!

Yes, this has been making periodic headlines for decades.
And nothing but those headlines...

I am 66. I have been reading that fusion was just around the corner for most of my life. I worked at Ebasco in the 80s, which was the contractor building the Tokamak fusion test reactor at Princeton. Interesting stuff. Tomorrow is always a day away.

Um, nuclear fusion doesn’t produce radioactive waste like fission does.

Farnsworth Fusors have been around almost a century. So, yes, a strong electromagnetic field can induce fusion. But at a net NEGATIVE energy output. They’re great for making fast neutrons on demand, though.

What? If a fusion reactor loses plasma, the reaction just stops.
