It is because city-folk don’t have all the amenities and conveniences they are used to and it is culture shock. No one likes that type of change but sometimes it is necessary to survive.

Don’t you know the crime rate is going up, up, up, up, up
To live in this town you must be tough, tough, tough, tough, tough!
You got rats on the West Side
Bed bugs uptown
What a mess this town’s in tatters, I’ve been shattered
My brain’s been battered, splattered all over Manhattan

Sha oobie, shattered, shattered, what say
Sha oobie, shattered
Sha oobie, shattered
Sha oobie, shattered

Uh-huh, this town’s full of money grabbers
Go ahead, bite the Big Apple, don’t mind the maggots, huh
Sha oobie, my brain’s been battered
My friends they come around they
Flatter, flatter, flatter, flatter, flatter, flatter, flatter
Pile it up, pile it up, pile high on the platter

New York has a great location, and great infrastructure.

It has hobbled itself with the tax structure, regulations, politics.

If it comes back, it will have to reduce costs enormously.

It cannot do that and keep paying the extreme wages to the govenment employees, police, teachers, bureaucrats...

They are the dogs in the manger. Everywhere else, they would rather the city self-destruct, than reduce their unsupportable wages and pensions.

It is not hard to see why...

They were promised these things, and have seen two or three generations get them...

A friend of mine moved out of inner loop Houston 20 years ago to a town of about 5,000. Adjusted well and will never go back.

I lived in a big city for around 10 years. Within a 15 minute walk from my apartment there were restaurants, a museum, a park, a theater, and a quaint little shopping district.

I’ve since moved further out. But I do miss having all those things so close.

The large dem city downtown is obsolete. People are just realizing it. The laptop computer stabbed it first. The political response to the virus stabbed it again. The mayor and the city council stabbed it for the third time.

Give it back to the Indians.

They couldn’t afford the property taxes :- /

On the elevator ride up to the top of the Freedom Tower, you see a historical timeline that that progresses, as you go up each floor/story.

It starts with the grass covered, hilly island that the Lenape Indians had lived on, and ends with (what was) modern day NYC.

Watching the city’s development, during that short ride, was interesting.

They want his buildings to bust.

Their failed policies are hurting more than just Trump properties.

“But NYC is the center of the financial universe. Opportunities will flourish here again.” Not this time.

There is no divine right of stagnation. Things are always changing, because in a free country rational people are always operating in accordance with the pleasure-pain principle and are always trying to maximize gains and minimize losses.

Insolvency can't be far away for NYC and some other major cities.

I think state law prevails in such situations, but, in the case of NYC, the mayor will lose all his power to either a receivership or a court appointed body via a Chapter 9 bankruptcy declaration.

“Well dang. I did a search as I always do and nothing turned up.”

Slightly different titles at each article...still a great essay.

Love the post you wrote. Bad times are upon us. What are we REALLY made of? I know we talk the American spirit but is that just something we say? Is it possible to endure dark times and come out better off than before? Our parents did. They made it through the Great Depression. They made it through World War ll. Our grandparents did. Many arrived here with nothing but a deep belief that they would survive and prosper. We can do this. With the help of a loving God we will make it.

I often do searches with just a few words instead of a whole title. If you put in “NYC dead” in the search bar, and choose titles, the first two that come up are for the two current threads that y’all listed. It may capture more in the search, but you can see which titles are different and what all was used in the title.

The next virus to hit the country: displaced NewYorkers spreading their huge egos and bad voting patterns across the country.
