Tell your friends and relatives they can't come to your house anymore....That should take care of the problem.

It's been the best part of the shut down. Now that it's nice out, I don't have to answer the phone until dark, either.

He is totally trained with the collar on. I can leave it on him 24x7 with its power off, so I don’t need a dummy. I don’t like him having to feel those 2 long metal probes on his neck all the time.

As to your dog management statement - that’s your opinion - and probably applies to most dogs. Collies are unique in that they are naturally home-bodies, and do not wander. We own 2 houses on 15 acres in about 500 acres of heavy forest, and have almost no neighbors, so I personally don’t think your statement applies to us and our collie.

He rarely roams more than 200’ from our house. And then it’s next door to our rental house next door because our tenants love him so much.

"All German Shepherds need a name that starts with R, S, or T.........."

Why is that?

No, I’ve owned several GSDs throughout my life and they all ate like bears out of hibernation. I do know that a diet of higher quality dog food helps with their digestion system and eliminates diarrhea.
Try feeding yours a high protein ‘grain free’ brand (’Pure Balance’ @ Walmart). Put a little warm chicken broth in it. If he’s healthy, he’ll go crazy for it and you might see a great improvement.

Half joke, half real.......only because I’ve never known anyone to name German Shepherds with names that don’t start with those letters.....

Thank you for the reply. I will get a small bag of the food you suggested and see how he reacts. Obviously, at 110 pounds he has eaten enough in the past! It’s probably that he is skittish after having the GI problem.

you can be offended if you like, but that is the way it is.

Can you prove that your dog was at home last night at 2:00AM?

The 500 acres helps, but a dog can cross 500 acres in probably less than 2 minutes if he is in a hurry.

There are thousands, maybe millions of what I call porch dogs...who lay on the porch all day but when the gang trots by, fall right in and go calf hunting, sheep killing or whatever.

And their owners never know about it.

And never forget, a dog is still a dog and as such needs human supervision.

I am hardly what you would call a dog hater. My first pet dog was in 1938. I was 10 years old. A German Shepard and probably the smartest guard dog I have ever seen.

Visitors were welcome, but he knew who was allowed in the house and who was not.

He lived in the house except when we were outside together.

I have never been without a pet dog since the day he came to live with us.

All house pets stay in the house at night.

My hunting dogs stay in the kennel at night.

And it is my belief that if you don’t think enough of your dog to keep him in the house, you don’t think enough of him to have a dog.

And damn...I am alergic to dog hair.

I don’t believe God intended for a 70 lb. collie to live in a house - he is NOT a house dog, all our collies have been outdoor dogs, all stay around the house, if he’s not here he’s at our rental home next door - guaranteed. He does not wander. Collies security is their home base - they are very unlike other dogs.

How many dogs run free on farms? Millions, and I think they would disprove your opinions and the farmers would disagree......

Actually I think it is cruel to make a large dog live in a house.....large dogs need to run - none of our dogs have had any health issues other than hip displasia that comes in the breed......

Have you checked - can the dog comprehend your sign?
