It seems to be a kind of ‘yeshivah bochur’ (young male student) thing. A kind of rebel thing.
I’ve never seen it in adults either, except, as in the general population, someone with mental problems.
There’s an extreme push on to ban gatherings, even for prayer. Large families and people living in close proximity. And many do not use any secular media and are slow to get news.
