Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery— the greatest material interest of the world. “
Good quotes.
The author is rather fast and loose with the facts.
I was taught slavery was the primary cause of the Civil War, in 1967. That was 43 years before 2013.
There has been contention over the causes of the war since it started. Clearly, slavery was an important issue. Maybe not the most important; that is in contention. But, it was an important issue.
LOL editorial staff.
Lousy editing. Hard to read like that. Never mind how long.
I attended school back in the ‘60’s and 70’s and from what I recall, slavery was the primary reason for the Civil War. And I agree with you about the author playing fast and loose with the facts.
Leftist saint Jimmuh showing his respect to the Confederados.
Jimmy ain't never been drummed out of the left pantheon. He's beloved.
Author is a well known idiot blog pimp who also propagandize so for the Chinese Communists.
The Loyalists who weren’t caught (and many hanged) made it to the British holdings in Bahamas, Bermuda and through Cuba etc.
On Cat Island in the Bahamas, at Port Howe (aptly named after Adm. Richard Howe, brother of the loser Gen. Howe, replaced by Gen. Clinton by Parliament).
The first European settlers were Loyalists fleeing the American Revolution, who arrived in 1783.
The Deveaux House in Port Howe was given to a Loyalist:https://www.bahamas.com/vendor/deveaux-plantation-ruins
It is worth the effort to edit and resubmit with main paragraphs in bold, and footnotes.
Uh-huh, if they say so.....it must be true! Vikings, I may buy.

The Dallas [Texas} Herald, December 21, 1867
Back From Brazil. - The Corsicana Observer has the following interesting Item:
We learn that our friends Messrs. G. A. Rakestraw, Wash. Ingram and H. P. Walker, of this county [Navarro, Texas], have returned home safe and sound from a protracted visit to Brazil, with the determination to remain at home in future, having seen no better country in their extensive travells than the county of Navarro.
We give them a hearty welcome home and would be glad to see them i our sanctum.
Wash's older brother Anderson Ingram had a son named Mack Ingram with a slave mistress in 1835.
Mack Ingram's son, Mack Ingram, Jr., had a son by his mistress, Mamie Hicks, in 1903 in Corsicana. The son was named Clifford Ingram, who later went by the stage name of "Rex" Ingram. He moved with his mother's family to Los Angeles between 1912 and 1920.
Rex went on to become a world famous actor in Hollywood movies.
It’s crap like this that got you kicked out of the United States.
You must have a PHD because that mess is truly piled higher and deeper.
And the BS Meter pegged right there and never moved off of it.
Nobody denies it was a cause or even an important cause. Its just that it was not THE cause. The vast majority of Southerners did not own slaves. Abolition was deeply unpopular in the North.
