Simple, Democrats know that at some point the guns may well all be pointed at them.
Just like Hitler once said, if you want to control people, take away their guns..if during the Holocaust people had access to firearms there would have been no Holocaust
Only a free people have guns. The ‘RATS don’t like that. When your government wants to take away your guns, you know that you’re in big, big trouble.
The same problem that Stalin and Hitler had with guns. You can’t oppress an armed public.
Those who are afraid of the people usually do not want the people to have guns.
Haven’t seen it in years but trolling over at DUmmieland informed me that there were Democrat Second Amendment supporters who considered themselves liberals. They didn’t last long before they were completely savaged in their posts and banned. I always wondered how liberal they remained after that. Same with posters who told them that they were Christians. Saw it happen several times and they didn’t seem like trolls.
They are tyrants and that it is why they must be militarily destroyed. They are no longer in the Constitutional framework and must be treated as domestic enemies.

I will leave the usual “would be tyrants” narrative about a disarmed populace to others as it is ground well traveled here at Free Republic.
Two oft overlooked reasons are:
1. The Progressives have an essentially unmanly/effeminate nature and value system. Weapons/skill at arms/warrior ethos are all associated almost exclusively with the male in Western Civilization.
Since the last 100 years has witnessed an attack on and erosion of all things masculine.....the guns are a last redoubt of manhood.
2. Even more important now is that the Proggies know that if they can induce enough catamite Republicans to side with them on guns....virtue signalling with the best of Feinstein/Schumer/etc during some post active shooter whine fest, then the RINO’s will alienate about 3% to 5% of their voting base. More than enough to ensure Proggy dominance in virtually the entire country.
The wall fight is the same thing on a different issue....trying to get Trump to fold on the single most critical issue of his presidency to “save the chilluns” and thereby ensuring his defeat in 2020.
All tyrannical governments are obsessive about guns and all of them do everything in their power to seize privately owned weapons. I witnessed this effort in the Balkans during the Yugo Civil War and that sort of thing is repeated worldwide.
The Democrat Party has been stymied by the 2d Amendment, but they will work tirelessly to get rid of that impediment or discover ways to get around it. Depend on it.
That is great, but see recent events in New Jersey for reference. The gun grabbers will have badges.
Get the guns and everything else is easy peasy.
Unarmed people are more easily intimidated by mobs of Antifas showing up that their homes.
Antifas are less likely to show, if they know in advance the home owner is armed, the neighbors are armed, and nobody there likes leftist mobs.
My Neighbors have no idea that I own Firearms.
Don’t need to worry about a concerned Citizen turning me in to the Authorities, especially living in CA.

I can’t think of a country with a well armed middle class that fell to a dictator wanna be. Democrats know they cannot become a totalitarian ruling class without disarming the general population.
To fully understand the Democrats stance on guns, you must remember:
Democrats LOVE guns.
They just dont want YOU to have them.
They intend to murder us all, and that so many of us are well-armed is all that is stopping them.
