The main problem is Amendment XVI, which allows the federal government to raise enough money to support a society that is 51% dependent on national government and able to bribe states with massive grants-in-aid to run welfare fiefdoms.
We really could get rid of the federal welfare state in a week.
However, in about four years it would be made bigger than ever (because the voting age dependent class is numerically larger than the voting age productive class) and the Democrats would import enough left-leaning moochers to ensure a permanent Democratic dictatorship.
The federal government can reduce subsidies by Article I Section 8 rules it is explicitly empowered to write every bit as much as it can reduce income taxes by granting mortgage interest deductions.

The federal government didn’t force me to buy a house in 1982 by having a mortgage interest deduction, but it made a financially convincing case with a tax rate of ~35%.
The federal government drives the housing market.
Is that good? No, in my opinion.
Is it Constitutional? Renters paying $1,000s/year more have never won a case.

I agree. Tom price has had a good plan for a few years now. I imagine him being named HHS secretary means they are going to replace Ocare with some semblance of his plan.
Well, I was continuously denied ANY health insurance coverage by EVERY company I applied to, because I have a pre-existing condition...heart disease.
I applied, and reapplied, over and over and over...and was denied by EVERYONE!
I supported Trump, always have and always will, but the one thing I applaud Obamacare for, was that I was FINALLY able to get health insurance!
You call it welfare...fine, call it whatever you will. But it was insane that I had a medical condition that NO ONE was willing to cover, that could cause my death, and leave my family bereft, until the ACA.
If they remove that section of the law they are basically sentencing me to death...unless I have $500,000 in the bank, which I don’t.
That cold, ruthless, heartless attitude on the part of some conservatives is what will destroy the new Trumpcare, if they don’t watch out.
