As a child, there was enough going on to just keep up w/o reading one language while listening to another. The folks who “taught” Sunday school also seemed to have trouble figuring out how to make kids understand what the heck was going on - do you teach Sunday School?

No, I don’t teach Sunday School and never attended Sunday School. But as a child I was taught to be attentive to the rubrics of the Mass and the translation of the Latin.

Tell that to all the Alaska Natives who were victimized by pedophile priests. At least tell that to the ones who are still alive. Alaska Natives have a horrific suicide rate and alcoholism rate, due in large part to all those pedophile priests sent to Alaska after they were caught molesting boys in their Lower 48 parish. Victims have already bankrupted the Fairbanks archdiocese. I hope they bankrupt every other archdiocese. It would serve them right.

AlaskaErik, I have no reason to doubt what you’ve written here, but let me give you an analogy to your criticism of the Church as a “vile, evil cult” because of situations such as you’ve described here. The prisons in our country are filled to the rafters with American citizens who have been found guilty of committing every despicable crime imaginable. Because this is true do you likewise describe America as a vile, evil country? I assume not. And of course there are countless other analogies that could be used to make my point. The Catholic Church has been a worldwide institution on this planet for over 2,000 years, and over that period of time it has had hundreds of millions of members. And as any reasonable person would expect, there has been and will continue to be scoundrels and criminals attached to it from top to bottom. Why? Because it is an institution of human beings, not angels and saints. On the other hand if you were to study and objective history of the Church you would discover that a great deal of what the Church has accomplished over the last 20 centuries been enormously and lastingly beneficial to all mankind. Give it some thought my friend and who knows, someday you may become a devout convert!

Well there is one consolation you can count on: You won’t be going to heaven but when you arrive in hell you will be able to have a nice family reunion!
Last time I checked Romans 10:9 showed the way to salvation. Catholics don't believe that. Enjoy the heat.
