The alt-right is in response to the authoritarian left that thinks these hash tags are somehow OK, and the authoritarian left is bolstered by both the federal government and those in power - demonstrated by Twitter’s trust and safety council not finding a problem with these hash tags even existing but removing conservative and libertarian people for expressing conservative views.

And in an era of identity politics, it is understandable that the group most demonized (whites, conservatives) would create a stronger tribal identity when under siege. When the social justice warriors can demonize all whites publicly and the media and officials applaud them, when you can sit in HR seminars where men, whites, Christians are all demonized and blamed for all ills of the world, when you can watch the left call for violence against whites and men with impunity, of course there will be a stronger “banding together for safety”.

There was also the story of the reporters attacked for their light skin in the riots with the Asian reporter initially attacked then let go when someone pointed out he wasn’t white, then he was told to leave, by Black Lives Matter.
