I graduated from UA. I remember a few times we had tornado warnings but we never thought anything of it. That day changed so much for so many.

I lived right behind Ireland Army Hospital at Fort Knox for that one. I very much remember the MEDEVAC choppers coming in and out from Brandenberg, KY, which got hit hard in that one.

“My daughter is a freshman at Bama. Lots of stories on facebook about the outbreak. It’s hard to imagine the damage.”

The damage was incredible. Parts of Tuscaloosa looked like a nuke hit it. Even Coach Saban was affected because the tornado barely missed his son’s home.

I’m glad that your daughter wasn’t at Bama yet and didn’t have to experience the tragedy.

I bet the students pay more attention when there are watches or warnings in the area.

I remember they used to herd us downstairs when there was a tornado warning. We used to think it was great getting out of class for a little while. I am sure they view things much differently now. We just didn’t know any better.

Yep - rode out a tornado that hit Altus AFB in the 80’s and saw the aftermath of some others. Driving through Birmingham on a trip a few weeks after the area had been ravaged/savaged was an eye-opener despite prior experiences. Between that and going through Katrina, I’m good if all severe weather just mysteriously stops for a few decades.

It’s also the 5 year anniversary of the Joplin tornado killing over 100 - making a path 3/4 mile wide right through the middle of the town. I’ve been there - really hard to believe.
